This issue is quite frustrating and I have yet to find a solution since I got the laptop. Sometimes , and then more frequently at other times, my cursor is forced to the search address bar on the task bar and then it no longer functions. I have to force restart the laptop and lose all the work I've been doing. I can move the cursor very briefly, then it goes back to task bar and "shivers". My only option is to crash the laptop.
This laptop is my only device besides my phone so this problem is not only frustrating, but completely counter productive. I've endured this issue since I purchased the laptop. I hope there is a simple solution where I dont have to send it in for diagnosis and/or repair. I have yet to find a solution after many attempts and use the laptop way too often to want to depart with it for any length of time. Is this a known issue? Is there a solution to this problem?
Please advise.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the cursor moves the search bar and it freezes.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you press the Windows key once when the cursor is stuck then check whether that resolves the issue.
If you continue facing the issue, then update the BIOS and chipset driver from the below link and test.
https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
If the issue persists, then install all the Windows updates (Including optional) and check.
Here is how it is done.
- Select the Start (Windows) button from the bottom-left corner.
- Go to settings (gear icon).
- Select the Update and Security icon.
- Choose Windows Update tab in the sidebar (Circular arrows)
- Select Check for updates. If there is an available update, it will begin downloading automatically.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

@Deca2k I suggest you attempt using an alternate/external mouse.
(If that works when the touchpad is disabled on device manager, it would mean that it's a touchpad failure,
However, if the external mouse doesn't work either, it could be a software/driver issue).
Uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your mouse:
Go to the Device Manager and select your mouse. Uninstall it and then restart your computer. During restart, your mouse driver will automatically be reinstalled.
- 1. Click on Start and type ‘Device Manager’.
- 2. Click Device Manager.
- 3. Click + sign next to Mouse.
- 4. Right-click on mouse entry and choose "uninstall".
- 5. Restart your computer.
If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried your suggestions and the problem persists. In fact, as soon as I restarted the laptop following your instructions, my cursor wen to the search bar on the task bar and I needed to restart again to continue.
The problem occurs while I use an external mouse or without an external mouse.
Any other suggestions?

I recommend you perform a system restore on the computer back to the date when the computer was working fine.
Refer to the below article for detailed steps.
