I need help on how to connect two external monitors to my laptop. I want them to extend my laptop display. There's only one HDMI port that does the extend display that I know of, do I get  hdmi splitter? My laptop is the HP 17-cn2xxx I have a G5 docking station that is not working with it.

@Jockc2

What is your HP 17-cn2xxx machine ? It should have same ports as the following machine

          HP 17-cn2083dx specs

It only has a hopeless USB-C port which is NOT compatible with HP USB-C G5 dock or any USB-C docks. If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (total 3), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter

Regards.

Will I need to keep the laptop open?  I want to shut the laptop and be able to display different windows on her monitor.  Will I be able To do so?

@Jockc2

Close the machine you won't get 3 displays, you only get 2 and 3

Thank you, I’ll be returning the laptop.  I want to be able to use the G5 that I purchased to switch between my work laptop and home laptop.
