Did you ACTUALLY buy the fingerprint option ? You can buy
- Fingerprint reader part number M36397-001
- The fingerprint reader cable is available in the Cable Kit as spare part number M07101-001.
And install to your machine.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
The fingerprint sensor is an optional feature on this model / series.
Did you purchase the computer with the fingerprint sensor included?

Side Note
If the computer did not come with the fingerprint sensor, it can be added.
See the service manual > Pages 50-51
After the hardware is upgraded, the driver can be installed.

I have a ProBook that looks just like the picture you posted -- on my system, the little "sensor" is actually just a cover.
Unfortunately, the picture does not prove the sensor is inside your computer.
Check the Device Manager
Why check?
If the device manager does not detect the hardware, that device will not be listed.
1) "Not detected" -- not in the list -- might mean the biometric hardware and / or the IR camera, even though never used, are mysteriously broken. So rare.
OR
2) "Not detected" -- not in the list -- might mean the biometric hardware and / or the IR camera -- are not installed - not in the computer. Check your original purchase order.
How to check
See the example posted in my earlier message.
Device Manager - Biometrics Information
- Control Panel > icon view > Device Manager >
- Tab View > “Devices by type” AND “Show hidden devices”
- Open category Biometric devices
- Look for and Right-Click on the fingerprint reader device > Properties
- Tab Details
- Beneath Property, “Device description”
- Beneath Value, look for the PID number
