My display shows shadows from whatever previous screen I was on. I have tried all of the HP Support AI recommendations. Nothing has worked. Is this a hardware issue or is there something else I can try?

@DMC98, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
The issue you're describing—shadows or "ghosting" of previous screens remaining on the display—is commonly known as image persistence or screen burn-in.
What You’ve Already Done
You mentioned trying all HP Support AI recommendations. That likely includes:
Updating graphics drivers
Restarting the laptop
Display calibration/resets
External monitor testing
If none of these helped, let's go further.
Check for Image Persistence (Run White or Color Screens)
Leave your display showing a white background (or rotating full-screen solid colors like white, red, blue, green) for 30–60 minutes. Free tools:
YouTube "burn-in fix" videos
This can sometimes help "reset" pixels.
Check in BIOS
Restart your laptop and enter BIOS (usually by pressing Esc at boot).
If the ghosting persists in the BIOS, then it's a hardware problem, not Windows-related.
Connect to External Monitor
Plug into an external monitor using HDMI or USB-C.
If the external display is fine but your built-in screen still shows shadows, the LCD panel is likely faulty.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
