My laptop's display flickers and makes buzzing sound when I connect it to charger

Pavillion 15-au620TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Its been a while my laptop's screen starts flickering and it makes an irritating buzzing noise after 2-3 minutes when I plug in the charger.

I don't know if it is a hardware issue or not but its very irritating, every time i'm working on my pc this issue shows up and I have to disconnect the charger and plug it again, It also occur when I play games and if I do some normal stuff.

I'm also having a battery draining issue, in which the battery drops from 80% to 20% instantly and then after a few minutes it automatically shuts down, so I can't imagine my laptop working without plugged in.

I also tried troubleshooting battery issue on HP battery check but it shows OK.

-All my laptop's drivers are up to date.

-There is no overheating while it flickers.

-I use laptop's original charger.

Please solve this issue ASAP.

Let me know if you want any video of this issue.

My laptop's display flickers and makes buzzing sound when I connect it to charger

@Ghanshyam98
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Have you checked the laptop display on an external monitor or tv?
  • Have you checked if the screen flickers in the Bios?
  • Are you getting any error message Plugged in not charging?

Boot the computer into the Bios screen and check if the screen flickers.

1. Turn off your computer
2. Make sure you have connected the power cable
3. Turn on your notebook, as it is starting press the  F10 button repeatedly.

Run hardware diagnostics test on battery and Charger:

Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.
  4. The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.
  5. To run both tests simultaneously, in the Component Tests menu, click Power Source, and then click Run once. Each component can also be tested individually.

AC Adapter Test:

The AC Adapter test provides an interactive test to determine if the AC power adapter is functioning properly. A good battery is required for this test. Before running the AC Adapter Test, HP recommends verifying that your computer can receive power by connecting a known working AC adapter.

Follow these steps to perform the AC Adapter Test.

  • In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click an AC Adapter Test.
  • Click Run once.
  • The AC Adapter Test begins.
  • When the test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen.

Battery Test:

Follow these steps to perform the Battery Test:

  1. In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click Battery.
  2. Click Run once. The Battery Test begins.
  3. When the battery test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen. For additional battery information, click Battery Details.

If the test passes, continue with these steps:

1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.

2. Expand batteries.

3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.

4. Shut down the computer.

5. Disconnect the charger.

6. Remove the battery.

7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.

8. Insert the battery only.

9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

My laptop's display flickers and makes buzzing sound when I connect it to charger

Thanks for the answer.

-Yes I've checked the laptop's display on my TV using HDMI but again the fans are making noise when plugged in.

-No issue doesn't shows up during BIOS.

-No I'm not getting any error messages during charging.

I've completed every diagnostics test you mentioned but it results OK.

and about removing the battery and again connecting it, my laptop does not have a battery which can be removed without opening the rear body, so I would not like to end up in any further problem.

But about the buzzing noise issue I think it is a software or any driver issue.

My issue somewhat resembles to this youtube video https://youtu.be/C6LL_utZCoA

Yesterday I tried  solving it my self so I searched on the internet and found a solution, it says to lower the percentage of CPU usage,

I did it by going to power plan-advanced power option-processor power  management-maximum processor state

then I changed the plugged in Percentage from 100% to 70%.

then the noise and screen flicker stopped for a few hours.

but then it again shows up!!

I think the issue is in fan speed being higher due to heating but I'm using it in a cool environment ;-(

let me know if you have any other solution or rather I would take it to the service center..

SPOILER: NO FIX! If is new, demand a new one. I used this video to proof the seller the "symptoms" i was describing. We established that this was indeed a SUITABLE charger for my laptop but it was FAULTY. The seller was not able to provide a viable solution so he sent me a new one free of charge ...
