Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

when I just hold my finger on the touchpad and don't move it, the cursor moves up and down on its own and when I move the cursor using the touchpad, it goes out of control and goes to very different places very fastly and is impossible to control right now. I have not done any damage to my laptop's touchpad.

Hi @Oz654

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

It sounds like you're experiencing erratic behavior with your touchpad. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Adjust Touchpad Sensitivity

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad (or Control Panel > Mouse > Touchpad settings).
  • Look for sensitivity settings and try reducing it to see if it improves control.

2. Update Touchpad Drivers

  • Go to the HP support website and download the latest touchpad drivers for your model.
  • You can also check through Device Manager:
    1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
    3. Right-click on your touchpad device and select Update driver.

3. Disable/Enable Touchpad

  • Sometimes toggling the touchpad off and back on can help. You can usually do this with a function key (like F5, F6, etc.), depending on your laptop.

If issue still persists update bios by going to this link: Click here

Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.

Navigate to the product page for your computer.

Select BIOS from the list that displays, and then review any available BIOS updates.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

i couldn't toggle off and on my pc's touchpad since  pressing f5 or f6 with a function key does not do anything and there was no option in my Settings > Devices > Touchpad to disable and enable it.
your 1. and 2. recommendations also did not work unfortunately, İs there another solution to try before trying bios update?

Hi @Oz654

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

I’m sorry to hear that the previous suggestions didn’t work. Here are a few more things you can try before considering a BIOS update:

1. Check for a Touchpad Shortcut

Sometimes, touchpads have a dedicated shortcut key (often involving the Fn key). Try pressing Fn + F5 or Fn + F6 together to see if that toggles the touchpad.

2. Reinstall Touchpad Drivers

  1. Go to Device Manager (right-click the Start menu).
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right-click on your touchpad and select Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.

3. Check for Windows Updates

Make sure your Windows is fully updated. Sometimes updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.

4. Use the Touchpad Software

If your laptop has specific touchpad software (like Synaptics or ELAN), check if it’s installed. You can usually find this in the Control Panel under Mouse settings. Look for a tab related to touchpad settings.

5. System Restore

If your touchpad was working previously, consider using System Restore to revert to a point in time when it was functioning properly. You can access this from Control Panel > Recovery.

If these options don’t help, then a BIOS update might be necessary Please click on this link

Let me know if you need more assistance!

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Yes, if the BIOS update is from the manufacturer and intended for your laptop model, it's generally safe to install. BIOS updates can fix bugs, improve performance, and add support for new hardware.
