Hi @luv2skydive,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Your issue seems to be related to the interaction between your mouse, Windows Magnifier, and other features in Windows 7. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve this.
Check Mouse Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Mouse.
- Under the Pointer Options tab:
- Make sure "Enhance pointer precision" is unchecked.
- Set the pointer speed to a moderate level.
- Check the Wheel tab to ensure the scroll settings are not set too high.
Disable Magnifier Keyboard Shortcuts:
If Magnifier is opening unintentionally, the shortcut keys might be triggered accidentally:
- Press Windows + U to open the Ease of Access Center.
- Click Make the computer easier to see.
- Uncheck Turn on Magnifier.
Scan for Malware:
Erratic mouse behavior could be caused by malware.
- Run a full scan using your antivirus software.
- Download and run Malwarebytes for an additional scan.
Update Mouse Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager:
- Right-click Computer > Manage > Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click your mouse and select Update Driver Software.
If no updates are available, try uninstalling the driver and restarting your PC. Windows will reinstall the default driver.
Check for Hardware Issues:
- Test the mouse on another computer to ensure it is not defective.
- If using a wireless mouse, check the battery and ensure there’s no interference.
Disable Touchpad Gestures (if using a laptop):
Touchpad gestures may interfere with mouse functionality:
- Go to Control Panel > Mouse or Touchpad Settings (depends on the driver installed).
- Disable gestures like pinch-to-zoom or three-finger swipe.

Adjust App Switching Behavior:
The app-switching behavior might be due to Alt + Tab being triggered:
- Ensure your keyboard keys are not stuck.
- Disable sticky keys from Control Panel > Ease of Access Center > Make the keyboard easier to use.
Use an Alternative Input Device Temporarily:
To isolate the issue, try using another mouse or a trackpad temporarily.
If the Problem Persists:
- Let me know what troubleshooting steps you’ve tried.
- Provide details about whether the behavior occurs in Safe Mode (Press F8 during boot and select Safe Mode).
These steps should help resolve or identify the cause of the problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
