I have a 2024 HP Spectre 14 that when I enable HDR in windows settings, the screen goes black. If I restart the machine, the HP logo shows up but when it boots into windows, nothing but black appears as if the screen is turned off due to the OLED panel.
Also, I was wondering if there is any way to reinstall the MyHP app and if resetting windows would get it back as it came preinstalled.

Hi @justrazz,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
To better understand and troubleshoot the issue with the HDR setting causing the screen to go black on your HP Spectre x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-eu0000, and your question about reinstalling the MyHP app, here are few things I would like to know.
- Have you made any recent changes to your display settings, or graphics drivers, or installed any new updates before the issue started?
- Does the issue occur only on the laptop’s built-in screen, or have you tested with an external monitor? If so, does the display work normally on the external screen when HDR is enabled?
- Have you recently updated your graphics drivers? If so, were these updates from the HP Support website, Windows Update, or a third-party source?
- Are you using any specific display modes (e.g., duplicate, extend) when enabling HDR? Does switching display modes affect the issue?
- Does the screen go black when the laptop is on battery power, plugged in, or both?
- Have you tried disabling HDR in safe mode or through the BIOS, and does the display return to normal when HDR is disabled?
- Did you uninstall the MyHP app, or is it simply not functioning? Have you tried looking for it in the Microsoft Store?
Meanwhile, you answer that I also want you to try the following steps below.
Issue 1: HDR Causes Screen to Go Black
Step 1: Boot into Safe Mode
Access Safe Mode:
- Turn off your laptop completely.
- Turn it on and press F8 repeatedly to access the boot options menu.
- Select Safe Mode with Networking from the options.
- Once in Safe Mode, disable HDR from Settings > System > Display.
Disable HDR in Windows Settings:
- If you can access the display settings in Safe Mode, turn off HDR. This will help determine if HDR is causing the problem.
Step 2: Update Graphics Drivers
- Check for Driver Updates:
- Go to Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
- Expand Display Adapters and right-click on your graphics driver (e.g., Intel or NVIDIA).
- Select Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Install Drivers from HP:
- Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop’s model number.
- Download and install the latest graphics drivers specific to your model to ensure compatibility with the HDR setting.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @justrazz,
Please find the remaining steps below.
Step 3: Roll Back Graphics Drivers
- If the problem started after a recent driver update, roll back to the previous driver version:
- In Device Manager, right-click on your display adapter and select Properties.
- Go to the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver if the option is available.
Step 4: Adjust Power Settings and Display Configuration
- Check Power Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings.
- Choose the High performance power plan and check if HDR works properly.
- Modify Display Configuration:
- Check the Display Settings and ensure the resolution and refresh rate are set correctly for HDR use.
- Disable any scaling options that might interfere with HDR functionality.
Step 5: BIOS and Firmware Updates
Update BIOS:
- Check for any BIOS updates on the HP Support website that might resolve compatibility issues with HDR.
Reset BIOS Settings:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (press Esc or F10 during startup).
- Reset BIOS to default settings if any recent changes might have affected the display.
Issue 2: Reinstall MyHP App
Step 1: Check Microsoft Store
- Search for MyHP App:
- Open the Microsoft Store and search for "MyHP". If it’s available, you can reinstall it directly from there.
Step 2: Reset or Restore Windows
Reset Windows (Keep Files):
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
- Select Reset this PC and choose the option to keep your files. This should reinstall the MyHP app as it was preinstalled.
Perform a System Restore:
- If you have a restore point from before the app was removed, use System Restore to revert your system to that point.
HP Recovery Manager:
- If available, use the HP Recovery Manager to reinstall software and drivers, including the MyHP app.
If these steps do not resolve your issues, you may have to check hardware diagnostics to ensure the OLED panel and related components are functioning correctly.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
