@darrisanthony here's a few steps to resolve the issue, start with checking for the webcam kill switch (if available on your model) and ensure its turned on,
That said, If your webcam has stopped working after installing a new update, you should uninstall the update and roll back to the older version. You will have to open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Roll Back Driver button > select Yes on the next window. After that, you need to restart your PC to check whether it is working.
If that doesn't work or there were no updates before the issue occurred, you might need to uninstall the webcam driver.
To do this, open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Uninstall Device button.
Restart your computer and then open Device Manager again and click on Action > Scan for hardware changes. (this would automatically reinstall the best drivers for it)
Once done, I suggest you install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.
- Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
- Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
- Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.

Hi @Riddle_Decipher,
sadly, none of this works. I have an Elitebook 745 G6 with Windows 10 Professional x64 (1909). Yesterday I got HP Support Assistant to update my BIOS to 01.03.05, after which the camera no longer works.
The issues are as described by @darrisanthony:
- Camera App shows: 0xA00F4271<MediaCaptureFailedEvent> (0x800706F7) error
- MS Teams show black screen
- Skype not even shows the laptop has a camera.
What I've done so far:
1. Update the driver in Device Manager - Windows continuously finds that it's 2006 driver is "the most up to date". In driver properties of the "USB Boot" camera I have:
Driver Version: 10.0.18362.20123

That's because it's a UEFI / BIOS issue. That's the only thing that changed in my laptop and it caused it.
Trying to resurrect my webcam I tried to do System Restore, which completely broke my laptop - I guess Microsoft is no better in HP in screwing things up...
Anyway, the bottom like is I got a clean install of Windows 10 Professional (1909) and the webcam still does not work. Windows only sees "Cameras / USB Boot" in Device Manager, and there's nothing in "Imaging Devices", Windows Hello does not work with facial recognition (because it cannot find the camera) and the Device Manager refuses to use the HP-provided webcam drivers - and when forced, the camera is still down.
One more thing I'd do would be to downgrade UEFI/BIOS, but since that requires some BitLocker shenanigans, and I need that laptop for work, there's no way I'm doing this at the moment without having a backup machine.
HP, is there anything you're doing to fix this?

@m93875 How was the reset attempted, did you make use of the HP Recovery partition (F11) or did you use the HP recovery media?
If you don't have an HP Recovery media and have attempted reset using the windows troubleshooter or a retail copy of windows, you'll need to order a recovery media: Click here for steps.
Or you may also attempt to download the same using the steps on this link: click here
For details on how to perform a successful reset: click here

Fxx keys don't work form be during boot. The only way I could get to UEFI / Recovery screen was because the system was failing to boot repeatedly, and every second time it showed the recovery options.
I used windows recovery from those options which I assume must have used some kind of recovery partition. Anyway, after the system was reinstalled, what I was faced with after that process was pure windows, with none of the applications I had before installed (not even HP ones), and all the drivers installed from Windows Update). The camera did not work at this point.
I then reinstalled the HP Support Assistant, let it upgrade whatever drivers it wanted (it did not see camera driver as required update), went through Windows Update again, manally installed official HP Camera Driver for my Laptop. All to no avail.
The camera is still dead, only visible in "Cameras > USB Boot" in Device Settings, and there's still nothing in "Imaging Devices". The "Camera" app still shows the dreaded "MediaCaptureFailedEvent" error.

I have done all of the steps listed as well and still have a dead camera, only visible in "Cameras > USB Boot" in Device Settings, and there's still nothing in "Imaging Devices". The "Camera" app still shows the dreaded "MediaCaptureFailedEvent" error. Too many people are having this same problem - it has to be a problem with the BIOS update! Even removing the update did not fix it! Hard to work from home when you can't use a camera for the meetings! HP and you please make this a priority! Thank you!

@m93875 & @DocHunsley If none of the suggested steps worked, this could be a hardware malfunction with the device and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:
1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/
2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Click on "Show Options".
Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,
here's how private messages work: Click here for details.
If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
