My screen brightness is exceeding the maximum limit randomly and more frequently (I don't have auto-brightness turned on). I've had to keep turning the brightness down and back up to get it back to normal but it's only a temporary "fix". How do I resolve this issue?

Hi @atrott,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Experiencing issues with screen brightness on your HP ENVY x360 Convertible Laptop running Windows 11 can be frustrating. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. You can visit the official HP website or use the Device Manager in Windows to check for updates. Sometimes, outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause display issues.
Adjust Power Settings: Go to the Power & sleep settings in Windows 11 and check the power plan settings. Some power plans might have settings that can affect screen brightness. Make sure your power plan is balanced, and adjust the settings accordingly.
Reset Power Plans: Sometimes, power plan configurations can become corrupted. Resetting them to default settings may resolve the issue. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following command to reset power plans:
powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date by installing any pending updates. Microsoft frequently releases updates that include bug fixes and improvements.
Update BIOS/UEFI: Check if there is a BIOS or UEFI update available for your laptop on the HP support website. BIOS updates can sometimes address hardware-related issues. Click Here
Disable Adaptive Brightness: Even if you don't have auto-brightness turned on, Windows might still be adjusting the brightness automatically. To disable adaptive brightness, go to Settings > System > Display and turn off the "Change brightness automatically when lighting changes" option.
Check for Malware: Run a full system scan for malware or viruses. Malicious software can sometimes interfere with system settings, including display settings.
Restore Windows: If all else fails, you might consider restoring Windows to a previous point when the issue didn't exist. Windows has a built-in System Restore feature that allows you to revert your system to a previous state.
