My hp laptop is giving a real trouble with the display, very randomly the display turns black/blank on touch to the touchpad/trackpad. Some time its on off depending on one specific color of the screen where the cursor may be, but very random, some time while moving customer to a certain color the display stays while moving it elsewhere it goes black, but there is no specific color, it keep on changing. its a real pain and sometime its impossible to use the laptop. Windows 11 24H2 64-bit (Intel Core i7) with a 128MB Intel Iris Plus graphics card. please help.

Hi @DharamK
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
That sounds incredibly frustrating! Since the display flickers or goes black depending on cursor movement and screen colors, it could be a driver issue, a power setting conflict, or even a hardware fault. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps:
1. Update Graphics & Touchpad Drivers
- Open Device Manager (Win + X → **Device Manager`).
- Expand Display Adapters → Right-click your Intel Iris Plus Graphics → Update driver → Search automatically.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices → Right-click your Touchpad driver → Update driver.
2. Disable Panel Self Refresh (Intel Graphics)
- Right-click on the desktop → Open Intel Graphics Command Center or Intel Graphics Control Panel.
- Go to Power Settings → Disable Panel Self Refresh for both Battery and Plugged In modes.
3. Adjust Display Refresh Rate
- Go to Settings (Win + I) → System → Display → Advanced display settings.
- Lower the refresh rate (e.g., from 120Hz to 60Hz) and see if the flickering improves.
4. Disable Fast Startup
- Open Control Panel → Power Options.
- Click Choose what the power buttons do → Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended) → Save changes.
5. Run HP Diagnostics
HP has built-in diagnostic tools that can check for display issues. You can find more details on HP’s support page.
6. Test External Display
- If possible, connect your laptop to an external monitor via HDMI or USB-C.
- If the external display works fine, the issue is likely with your laptop’s screen.
7. Consider a BIOS Update
- Visit HP’s driver page for your model and check for BIOS updates.
- If an update is available, install it carefully.
