I'm starting to  believe that my most recent BIOS update (4/16/24)

may have been a mistake and I've started to explore a BIOS rollback

to F.13. I've never tried a rollback so I'm hesitant to try one

without supervision. I'd like to attach my BIOS Update log file to

this post, but I don't know how to attach it. Could someone educate me?

I've read about the Win + b + power(2-3 sec) to start the rollback.

Can you rollback more than one version? If I were to update to F.21

could I  rollback two versions to F.13? If not, updating to F.21

probably should be avoided!

I've completed further research on BIOS rollbacks. It seems

that there are numerous reports of rollback failures. I've included

a screenshot of my EFI partition and its BIOS files. If someone tells

me how to post the BIOS update log file, an expert might be able

to review and comment. You might give me an opinion regarding

the potential for success.

Silence for a week?? Are BIOS rollbacks a taboo topic?

Do BIOS rollbacks work only on particular notebooks

with particular BIOS versions? Would I do better to

start a new topic on BIOS rollbacks in another category?

I ran the Windows version of Hardware Diagnostics. It

reported I was current at BIOS F.19. The latest version

of the UEFI diagnostics does not have any BIOS information.

Is it true that in order to attach a file to a post you must

be at level 7 or higher? How do you get there - quickly?

By the way I ran Windows Update for April last night.

It did not solve my touchpad problems.

Sorry you have been ignored -- but I am not the BIOS expert on the forum.

What I have been told is that most BIOS updates can not be undone and this is shown when you try to flash an older version and it errors out.  When that happens, you are stuck -- for without a BIOS burned and the proper source, you can not flash to an older version.

HP used to make a tool available to do this, but they stopped doing that some years ago.

Thanks for the info on BIOS rollbacks. Disappointing, but acknowledged.

Getting back to the TouchPad...

On the driver page for my notebook/convertible, downloads for

a 1/29/2021 TouchPad driver update is offered for 20H2 and a general

Win 10 OS.  Both of these yield a file named sp112541.exe. If I try

to install it, I get the following:

The driver is not supported on this OS version (10.0.19045)

Again, there is no 22H2 driver listed. Can somebody look into this?

Would anyone recommend Microsoft Catalog as a source for

current drivers? It has a large number of Synaptics Touchpad drivers.

I retrieved my touchpad hardware id from

Device Manager (hid\syna328c&col01) and completed

a search of the Microsoft Catalog. It indicated that I

have the latest driver. I'm starting to think that I don't

have a driver issue.

I connected a Seagate USB external hard drive that last

was used on this machine a couple of months ago. Now,

after the BIOS update, it refuses to work. Device Manager

sees the drive, but File Explorer does not. If I connect the

drive to an older machine with Win 7, it works flawlessly.

More and more this seems to be a BIOS issue. I do have

another Win 10 machine, but it has only one available

USB port and a different BIOS.

I used Disk Management to assign a letter to

the Seagate drive. It works fine now.

I was looking through my collection of devices and

found a USB mouse. I plugged it in and everything

worked - Windows and Linux. The only thing that I can't

do now is use the machine in laptop mode with it balanced

on my belly as I lay flat on my back on the couch. It's tough

to use the mouse in that position! That's OK as I usually

lay down and use it in tablet mode with

a stylus and an onscreen keyboard. I'll just have to use

it in laptop mode while I'm sitting at a table.

This is probably my last post on this issue. We will see

if any updates return the touchpad to full functionality.
