My laptop has a touchpad. Below the touch pad are the left and right click buttons. The left click button won't click. it looks like it is raised slightly higher than the functioning right click button. I have cleaned it, but it still doesn't work. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
Thank you

Hi @Lily6465,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the left-click button on your touchpad might be physically stuck or misaligned. Here are a few steps you can try to fix the issue:
Check for Physical Obstructions:
- Since you've already cleaned it, make sure there are no small debris or particles causing the issue. Sometimes even a small amount of dust or dirt can affect the click function.
Inspect for Misalignment:
- If the button looks raised compared to the right click button, it might be misaligned. Gently press around the button to see if it moves into place. Avoid applying too much force to prevent damaging the touchpad.
Update or Reinstall Touchpad Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager).
- Find Mice and other pointing devices, and look for your touchpad.
- Right-click on it and choose Update driver. Follow the prompts to check for updates.
- If updating doesn't work, you might want to uninstall the driver and then restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
Adjust Touchpad Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Make sure the touchpad is enabled and adjust the sensitivity settings to see if it affects the click function.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off your laptop, unplug it from the power source, and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reinsert the battery, plug in the power source, and turn on the laptop.
Check for Software Conflicts:
- Sometimes software or background applications can interfere with touchpad functionality. Boot into Safe Mode to see if the problem persists. If it works in Safe Mode, a background application might be causing the issue.
External Mouse:
- As a temporary solution, you can use an external mouse to navigate until the touchpad issue is resolved.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
