HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-df0
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just purchased an external monitor that can connect via a USB-C cable.

I'm not able to connect it with my Spectre laptop thru the Thunderbolt 3 ports, the monitor displays "no signal on usb-c"

I have confirmed that the monitor is good, it displays thru a hub using the Thunderbolt port and a DP connection.

the monitor does connect with a mac using the Thunderbolt port, so the cable and the USB-C connection on the  monitor is working.

I have updated the BIOS and the drivers for the laptop

I have a NVDIA  GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with "Max Q design"

Any ideas why this is not working?

@Go4itnow

Thank you for the information.

I see that there are two USB C ports on the right side of the laptop. To which port on the right are you connecting the monitor? Have you tried both the ports?

I recommend you connect the monitor to port 6 from the below image and check if it helps.

If you continue facing the issue, then update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and test.

BIOS: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp108501-109000/sp108735.exe

Intel: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp102001-102500/sp102290.exe

Nvidia: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp100501-101000/sp100904.exe

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I had already tried both ports but the good news is that after updating the BIOS and the drivers the USB C connection now works! It still does not work thru my hub but I will contact CalDigit regarding that.

Thank you so much for your help.

Dear Go4itnow,

I hope to provide you the solution for this very annoying problem!!! I had the same issue and I spent almost 3months to fix the isssue after several attempts performed under the supervision of the HP support. You can find the solution in this post I wrote today to be helpful to the HP community: External monitor not working with thunderbolt connector.

Basically you need to change from 0 to 1 an entry of the register file. Keep me posted if that solution works fine!
