The touch screen on this laptop isn't working anymore. I believe it should show up in BIOS, but it doesn't. I update the BIOS via the HP drivers website. It seems that the touch screen problem is related to this. I never checked it before the update, but I DID roll back the BIOS to the previous version. It appears as the same version (F.50) in BIOS but the BIOS update said  it was F.50 Rev. A. There is no entry in device manager but there is USB Touchscreen Controller (C04D), and there is a mysterious "USB Input Device" under Human Interface Devices.

Troubleshooting Steps

Verify BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup by quickly pressing Esc and then F10 at startup.
  • Look for settings related to the touch screen or input devices. Ensure that any such settings are enabled.

Check Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager and check for any devices with error symbols (exclamation marks or question marks).
  • If the touch screen device is not listed, right-click in Device Manager and select Scan for hardware changes.

Restore BIOS to Previous Version:

  • Since you've rolled back to the previous version, ensure the rollback was successful. It should restore any settings changed by the update.
  • Recheck if the rollback process left the BIOS settings altered. Confirm the version matches your previous configuration precisely.

Update/Install Drivers:

  • Visit the HP support website and ensure that all drivers, especially those related to USB and input devices, are up to date.
  • Reinstall drivers if the touch screen device appears under HID (Human Interface Devices) or USB input devices.
