Hi,
I left my computer for a couple of hours on my desk. When I cam back, the touch pad stopped working completely. I have re-installed drivers and have done a hardware test (which failed). It very much seems like a software issue since it was working earlier this morning, but does anyone have an idea on what kind of hardware issue would cause the mouse to stop working so suddenly?

If your touchpad isn’t working, it may be a result of a missing or out-of-date driver.

On Start , search for Device Manager, and select it from the list of results. Under Mice and other pointing devices, select your touchpad, open it, select the Driver tab, and select Update Driver. If Windows doesn't find a new driver, look for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

If those steps didn't work, try uninstalling your touchpad driver: open Device Manager, right-click (or press and hold) the touchpad driver, and select Uninstall. Restart your device and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

If that didn't work, try using the generic driver that comes with Windows. Here's how: in Device Manager, right-click (or press and hold) your touchpad driver > Update driver software... > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, select HID compliant mouse, select Next, and follow the instructions to install it.

If the above doesn't help, install the drivers from the HP website: click here to find and install the same
Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
- Click Extensive Test.
- Click Run once, or Loop until error.
- While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.
If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

Hi,
Thank you for your response. I am actually getting stuck at step 1. When I go to Mice or other pointing devices, my touchpad does not appear (only the wireless mouse that I am using now because my touchpad is not working),
