HP Elitebook 840 G4

I am trying to display my screen and sound from HP Elitebook 840 G4 to my TV. I used a USB - C to HDMI cable to connect, but the laptop showed something that said it is not recognizing it.

From manual, your machine should have following ports

  • VGA (Dsub 15 pin) supporting 1920 x 1200 external resolution @ 60Hz; hot plug/unplug and auto detect
  • USB 3.1 Gen 1 charging port
  • USB 3.1 Gen 1 port
  • USB Type-C (basic)
  • DisplayPort
  • RJ-45
  • Docking connector
  • Audio-out (headphone)/audio-in (microphone) combo jack
  • AC port

As you can see, USB-C port is a Basic port which does not support USB-C to HDMI for video out. You can use DisplayPort to HDMI to connect. There are many suitable cables around, from 50cm to 500cm.

Regards.
