I currently use an EliteBook 820 with a 24" HD display (1920 x 1080) connected through a 3005pr port replicator.
I am considering getting an ultrawide (21:9) display to replace the existing one, to better view large spreadsheets, but the documentation with the laptop and port replicator are rather vague about supported display resolutions. A 29" ultrawide display would have 2560 x 1080 pixels; a 34" version would have 3440 x 1440.
Does anyone know if the existing graphics chipset and driver in the laptop/port replicator can support displays of these resolutions? If not, would such displays be supportable with updated/different drivers?
Thanks for any pointers on this, before I spend/waste my money!

I am typing this on my home setup which is a Thinkpad with a 2d gen Core i5 and Intel HD3000 video and Windows 10. I use a docking station connected to an LG Ultrawide (2560 x 1080) monitor. I have found that HDMI is hit or miss as far as scaling to the correct resolution, but DisplayPort just works. So my monitor is connected to the dock with a displayport cable. Your 3005pr dock has a displayport. All the current UW displays will have a DP connection. LG also provides software that will help in getting the correct resolution. Post back if you need any more help.

Huffer: Thank you for your reply.
You have a completely different hardware set-up from me, containing (I suspect) a different Intel graphics chipset. Is it the LG software which adapts the graphics driver to support the UW resolution? I ask because no 'external display' resolutions beyond 1920x1080 are shown on the list when I look at the Screen Resolution dialog, though maybe this list is automatically constrained by the capability of the display...
Good point about the DisplayPort connection. Would it be fair to assume all UW displays have DP inputs?
I'm still keen to discover if anyone else is successfully using a UW display with an HP EliteBook 820 G1, running Windows 7.

My point was that my hardware is older and it it works with the UW resolution; yours will, too. Your resolution menu will only show the available resolutions of the connected monitor. I do not have an 820 G1 but my UW monitor was a display in a computer store and literally dozens of laptops were connected to it including some HP business models and it never failed to display correctly with a DP connection. Yes, I would say every UW display you can buy new right now will have a DP connection. Good luck.
