HP Elitebook Ultra G1q 14 inch
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I was recently loaned an HP Elitebook Ultra G1q 14 inch laptop with ARM Snapdragon processor to try. The laptop has a UK keyboard layout but unlike some laptops, the pipe or vertical bar character | doesn't have a separate key, instead it's on the L key (see picture below).

Looking at other posts such as, Solved: How do I use the pipe symbol (vertical line) on an HP Envy x... - HP Support Community - 775..., I should be able to enter the character using Shift+Fn+L or Fn+Shift+L but this just enters the same character as with Fn+L i.e. \. AltGR+L also doesn't work (it doesn't produce any character). The pipe character is on the on-screen keyboard but that keyboard layout doesn't match the physical keyboard. The keyboard layout in Windows is set to United Kingdom QWERTY; I tried QWERTY extended but that didn't help.

The laptop was reset (windows reset PC) before it was passed to me, could this have done something to the keyboard layout? The HP Image Assistant tool doesn't seem to have any recommendations in terms of missing or old driver versions. Not sure if it helps but the HPIA tool shows the Keyboard Type under BIOS Settings to be: US5 (Europe KB).

Any suggestions are welcome?

Many thanks
