Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a Spectre x360 laptop running Windows 11 OS Build 22631.3447 and an Innoview portable monitor that connects via USB C. This setup worked fine until suddenly the laptop is no longer outputting display via USB and I'm unable to figure out what's changed. When I connect the laptop and monitor the power comes on on the portable monitor and the screen displays the manufacturer logo, then it just goes black.

Things I've tried:

  1. Updated graphics drivers

  2. Deleted and reinstalled graphics drivers

  3. Cleared display cache

  4. Tested the monitor and cable on my phone (it works fine here)

  5. Confirmed resolution and refresh are the same on the laptop and portable monitor

  6. Tried a different USB C cable on the laptop

  7. In System settings, tried to click Detect Other Display while portable monitor is connected (laptop doesn't detect a second display

  8. Win key + P, tried enabling Duplicate, Extend or Second Screen (no response from portable monitor)

  9. Multiple power cycles
  10. Deleted and reinstalled USB Connector Manager drivers

Hi @Springfields,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already tried many of the standard troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue of your Spectre x360 laptop not outputting video to your Innoview portable monitor via USB-C. Since the monitor and cable work fine with your phone, we can rule out hardware issues with those components. Let's consider a few more steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that all Windows updates are installed. Sometimes, certain updates can fix compatibility issues that affect hardware like USB-C ports.

BIOS Update and Settings:

  • Check for any available BIOS updates for your HP Spectre x360, as these can improve hardware compatibility and functionality.
  • After updating, access the BIOS settings (usually by pressing F10 during boot) and reset to default settings to ensure no configurations are interfering with USB-C display output.

Inspect USB-C Port:

  • Examine the USB-C port on your laptop for any physical damage or debris that might be causing a poor connection.

USB-C Port Settings in Windows:

  • Go to Device Manager -> Universal Serial Bus controllers and make sure that the USB-C port is not disabled. Sometimes, power settings can turn off certain ports to save energy.
  • Also, check Power Management settings for USB hubs and devices in Device Manager, and ensure that the option to allow the computer to turn off this device to save power is unchecked.

Alternative Software Settings:

  • Sometimes, third-party display management software (like those provided by GPU manufacturers) can interfere with display settings. If you have any such software installed, try adjusting settings there or temporarily disabling the software.

Monitor Specific Settings:

  • Check if there are specific settings or modes on the Innoview portable monitor that need to be configured to accept USB-C video input.

Hardware Troubleshooting:

  • If possible, try connecting another USB-C monitor or display to your laptop to confirm whether the issue is with the laptop's USB-C port or the specific interaction between your laptop and the Innoview monitor.

Event Viewer Logs:

  • Use Windows Event Viewer to check for any logs that occur when you connect the monitor. This can sometimes provide clues if the system is recognizing the monitor but failing to use it due to some error.

Advanced Software Reset:

  • As a last resort, you might consider performing a system restore to a point when the output was functioning correctly or even resetting Windows. Before doing so, ensure all important data is backed up.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
