This is not true any longer, we have a program for Elan and you disable it in the program, it's simple except for one thing, it doesn't disable the touchpad

I was able to do the regedit but it did not turn my ELAN touchpad off on my Latitude.  It was set to 0 before I changed it.  I have removed and reinstalled the USB for my wireless mouse a number of times and the TP is still annoyingly active.

It took me a few tries to finally get the change made in the register and the system rebooted with the change.  But once the change was accepted and system rebooted I've never had a problem since.  It's been many, many months since I made the change.

Try again, carefully, and then reboot immediately.

It can be done.  Good Luck.

Thanks.  I did get it done.  No sweat in regedit but it took two reboots to make it happen - quite odd.

I received my new Pavilion Windows 10 64 bit about a month ago. I contacted HP support about disabling the Touch Pad. The agent was unable to install the HP Driver SP94673. I have had problems installing other HP Drivers with other agents. The agent transferred me to advanced support and the call was dropped. I called Microsoft I explain the issue to the agent. The agent had a hard time with the installation of the driver also. The agent finally installed the driver. The application installed “ELAN TOUCHPAD SETTING” the Touchpad setting has its own window with options to disable the touchpad when the USB mouse is being use.  You may have to enable and disable it a couple of times for the setting to work. Installing the Elan Touchpad Setting application does not require any Registry changes.

I found no Disable setting, so I changed the Registry as you suggested. Still not disabled. The only option I am offered is to Uninstall the device. If I do that, can I reinstall it later ?

The above picture shows what the Elan Touch Clickpad. There were no registry entries required.  Once the Mouse is removed is removed from the USB Port the Elan Touch Clickpad become active. You might have to test it two or three times. Each time I tried typed above the screen turned blue.

I have had problem installing software a couple time that require support from HP and Microsoft that I didn't have on my old Pavilion. I was on the phone for a long time with HP Support trying to disable Elan Touch Clickpad.  The support agent was unable to disable it. I had to call Microsoft Support who had a little problem with installation of the software.  I have not had any problems with the Clickpad since.

Couple of days before, I bought a HP Laptop and had difficulty in disabling the Elan Touchpad while using external USB mouse as it creates nuisance while typing.  I tried several methods, but it did not work. Finally, the method suggested by editing the Registry worked!!    Now when the USB Mouse is plugged in, Touchpad does not work and when I remove the USB mouse, the Touchpad resumes!!  Thanks for the HP team!!  Regards,
