I don't know what is your Pavilion Notebook 17 machine but many machines with HDMI 1.2, HDMI 1.4 and even HDMI 1.4b support 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz external monitors.

I do currently have a connected 24" external display at 1080 & 60Hz, but wish to use a 27" which will be 1440 @ 60Hz or faster.
