HP Spectre x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-eu0000 (7K634AV)

Hello.

After updating windows 24H2 today pointer is very big. when starting the laptop. You can correct this with changing scale from 200% to for example 175% and come back to 200% again.

After correcting when restarting the system everything is fine but when I close the laptop and start again. problem comes back.

All the drivers and windows updates are up to date. How to solve this issue?

Thank you in advance.

Hi @hbegaki,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the issue with the oversized mouse pointer after the Windows 24H2 update on your HP Spectre x360 14-inch is linked to the display scaling settings, specifically when waking up the laptop after being closed. Since adjusting the scaling temporarily resolves the issue, here are a few additional steps you can try to resolve it permanently.

Update Graphics Drivers

Even though your drivers are up to date, sometimes Windows updates can cause compatibility issues with certain graphics drivers. Try the following:

  • Open Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting Device Manager.
  • Expand the Display Adapters section.
  • Right-click on your graphics adapter (e.g., Intel or NVIDIA) and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

You could also visit the HP website and download the latest graphics drivers specifically for your model to ensure compatibility with Windows 24H2.

Reset the Scaling Settings

You could try resetting your display settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and choose Display settings.
  • Scroll down to Scale and layout.
  • Set the scaling to 100%, restart your laptop, and check if the pointer issue persists.
  • Then, set the scaling back to 200%, restart again to see if the problem is resolved.

Check for DPI Scaling Fixes

Sometimes, the DPI scaling can cause issues with display rendering on startup. To address this:

  • Go to Settings > System > Display.
  • Click on Advanced display settings at the bottom.
  • Scroll down to Advanced sizing of text and other items.
  • Click Set a custom scaling level and enter 100%, then restart the computer. Afterward, try setting it back to 200% and see if the issue persists after closing and reopening the laptop.

Use Compatibility Mode for Scaling Issues

Some users have found success by running specific programs (like the mouse driver or display settings) in compatibility mode:

  • Right-click the application causing issues (like Windows Explorer or System Settings) and choose Properties.
  • Under the Compatibility tab, check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select an earlier version of Windows (like Windows 10).
  • Apply the changes and test again.

Perform a Clean Boot

To rule out any third-party software or startup programs affecting the display:

  • Type msconfig in the Start menu and hit Enter to open System Configuration.
  • In the General tab, choose Selective startup and uncheck Load startup items.
  • Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
  • Restart your computer and check if the issue still occurs.

Use the Windows Troubleshooter

Windows includes a built-in troubleshooter that may identify and resolve display-related issues:

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Select and run the Display troubleshooter.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello,

I did try all these but they did not fix the problem.

Also please check web, I am not the only one, who have this issue. (you can find the links on the botoom of the nessage)

On the other hand, the problem is not only that the mouse pointer became big; also the scale is becoming like it is 300%, although  the setting is on 200%.

For the time being I solved the problem like this :

I did diasble fast startup, and the startup takes now only few seconds more but the problem solved.

I am sure that it is due to 24H2 release and Microsoft has to find a solution for that immediately.

Please also inform Microsoft for this problem, that is hapening now all Spectres, check the links also  below  from pther people.:

Hello,

I did do all these possibilities but no solution. Please contact with Microsoft and explain this issue. A lot of people have the same problem which are using HP Spectre X360 laptop. You can check also here :

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/mouse-cursor-size-issue-on-windows-11-v24h2-hp...

This is same problem and  for now there is only one solution. If you disable fast boot , the problem is not happening.

Waiting for your urgent help.

Thank you in advance.

On the other hand, please find below the info from other user, which have the same problem :

if you roll back to windows 11 22H2 it doesn't happen, so it's definitely a 24H2 issue
