Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-s0000 (76T53AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,
I am experiencing a pre-boot display initialization issue on my HP Victus 7z586EA laptop. AMD 780m igpu + RTX4060m dgpu

BIOS version: F32

Problem description:

In Hybrid graphics mode, the laptop powers on, LCD screen backlight turns on, but no VICTUS logo appears.

Windows still loads (audio works), but display remains black until I put the device into sleep mode or at startup use F9/F10 for BIOS screen after which the image returns.

In Discrete GPU mode, the system works normally without any display issue.

This suggests a BIOS-level or firmware-level issue related to AMD iGPU (780M) initialization or eDP display handshake during boot.

I have already tested:

Clean Windows installation

GPU driver reinstall

Fast Startup disabled

Discrete mode test (works normally)

The issue only occurs in Hybrid mode during pre-boot stage.

Could you please confirm if there is a BIOS update or known firmware fix for AMD iGPU initialization in this model?

Hi @dnmxşlsm

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

There is currently no official BIOS update specifically documented to resolve AMD 780M iGPU pre‑boot initialization issues on the HP Victus 7z586EA. The latest available BIOS for your model is version F32, and HP recommends verifying updates only through the official HP Support site. HP Support

Recommended HP Steps

Check for BIOS Updates via HP App

  • Open the HP App on your laptop.
  • Navigate to Diagnose & Fix → Updates.
  • Ensure all pending BIOS, chipset, and graphics updates are installed.
  • Restart the system after updates.

Manual BIOS Verification

  • Visit the official HP Drivers & Software page: HP Support Drivers HP Support
  • Enter your product ID (Victus 7z586EA).
  • Confirm if a newer BIOS version than F32 is listed. If available, download and install following HP’s instructions.

Hybrid Mode Initialization Check

  • In BIOS Setup (F10), confirm Hybrid Graphics is enabled.
  • Verify Secure Boot remains enabled.
  • If available, check for Restore Factory Keys under BIOS Security.

Display Handshake Reset

  • Perform a power reset:
    • Shut down the laptop.
    • Disconnect AC adapter.
    • Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect and power on.
  • This clears residual states that may affect eDP initialization.

Note:

  • Hybrid Mode Issue: Your description points to an AMD iGPU initialization delay during pre‑boot, which prevents the VICTUS logo from appearing until a secondary trigger (sleep or BIOS hotkey).
  • Discrete Mode Normal: Confirms the RTX 4060m path initializes correctly, isolating the issue to the AMD 780M + eDP handshake.
  • Firmware Dependency: Such initialization problems are typically addressed in future BIOS releases. Until then, keeping BIOS and drivers updated via HP App is the best practice.

Please check the HP Support Drivers page for your Victus 7z586EA and confirm if a newer BIOS version beyond F32 is available. If none is listed, continue using Discrete mode for stability until HP releases an update.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Update after further testing:

Unfortunately, the issue has become more frequent after updating to BIOS F.32.

Here is what I have tested so far:

  • Factory reset of BIOS settings.

  • CMOS reset (I even received the "CMOS checksum invalid" and "Operating system mode changed" messages afterward).

  • Secure Boot disabled and enabled again.

  • Enabled Secure Boot and tested with Hp vendor Factory keys and removed all keys.
  • TPM enabled.

  • Switched between Hybrid and Discrete graphics modes.

  • Tested both Windows and  Linux.

  • Installed the latest GPU drivers on both operating systems.

The behavior is always the same:

  • On a cold boot, the laptop often powers on with no HP logo, no BIOS screen, and no boot menu on the internal display.

  • The keyboard (Caps Lock) responds, so the system appears to continue booting normally.

  • If I connect an external monitor via HDMI, I get a display output once the operating system loads.

  • The internal panel starts working immediately after putting the laptop to sleep and waking it up.

  • This happens before the operating system loads, so it does not appear to be a Windows or Linux graphics driver issue.

The problem is now occurring even in Discrete Graphics mode, although it originally seemed more common in Hybrid mode.

At this point, it looks like a firmware/GOP/eDP initialization issue introduced or made worse by BIOS F.32 rather than an operating system or driver problem.

If anyone from HP can reproduce this or forward it to the BIOS/firmware team, I would really appreciate it.

Hi @dnmxşlsm

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you have already performed, this issue appears to occur before the operating system loads, which makes a Windows driver issue unlikely. The symptoms point more toward BIOS display initialization (GOP), embedded controller state, eDP panel initialization, firmware configuration, or hardware-level display initialization. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Power Reset

A normal restart does not fully reset the embedded controller.

  • Shut down the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter.
  • Disconnect all external devices:
  • USB devices
  • HDMI cable
  • Docking station
  • External storage
  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  • Release the button.
  • Connect only the AC adapter.
  • Power on the laptop and check whether the HP logo appears.

Reset BIOS to Factory Defaults

Since CMOS reset was performed, reload BIOS defaults manually.

  • Power on the laptop.
  • Press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Select:
  • Exit - Load Setup Defaults
  • Confirm.
  • Save changes and exit.
  • After reboot, enter BIOS again and verify:
  • Boot Mode: UEFI
  • Legacy Support: Disabled
  • TPM: Enabled
  • Secure Boot: Enabled

Test BIOS Without Secure Boot Configuration Changes

Secure Boot key changes can sometimes affect firmware initialization.

  • Enter BIOS (F10).
  • Go to:
  • Security - Secure Boot Configuration
  • Temporarily set:
  • Secure Boot = Disabled
  • Restore Factory Keys = Not required for this test
  • Save and restart.

Perform HP BIOS Recovery

Even if BIOS F.32 is installed, perform a recovery flash to rewrite firmware components.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Connect the AC adapter.
  • Press and hold: Windows + B
  • While holding the keys, press the Power button for 3 seconds.
  • Release the Power button but continue holding Windows + B.
  • Wait for the BIOS Recovery screen.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

I have already completed all of the steps you suggested.

  • Performed the EC/Power Reset multiple times.

  • Loaded BIOS Setup Defaults multiple times.

  • Also tested both SecureBoot Enabled andDisabled.
  • Tested both Hybrid Graphics and Discrete Graphics modes.

  • Performed BIOS Recovery (Windows + B). I also attempted to recover using the official F.31 BIOS package downloaded from HP, but BIOS Recovery could not find a valid BIOS image, so I was unable to roll back. I think roll-backs are not allowed.

Additional observations:

  • This issue only occurs after a cold boot.

  • The Victus logo does not appear.

  • Windows boots successfully in the background (I hear the startup sound and Caps Lock responds), but the internal display remains black.

  • If I enter BIOS with F9/F10, the display initializes normally.

  • If I close and reopen the lid after Windows has booted (sleep/wake), the display starts working normally.

  • Once the display is working, restarting Windows does not reproduce the issue.

Based on these observations, I believe this is a BIOS/firmware regression.

Could you please escalate this case to the BIOS/firmware engineering team and investigate whether this is a known issue with BIOS F.32?

Thank you.
