@vedant63, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out about the display flickering issue on your HP Victus Gaming Laptop fb0040X. I understand how frustrating this can be, and I’m here to help you get it resolved.

Step 1: Check if the flickering occurs in BIOS

This helps determine if the issue is hardware-related.

  1. Shut down your laptop completely.
  2. Press the Power button and immediately start tapping the Esc key repeatedly (once every second).
  3. When the Startup Menu appears, press F10 to enter BIOS.
  4. Observe the screen for a few minutes.
  • If the flickering occurs in BIOS, it's likely a hardware issue
  • If the flickering does not occur, proceed with the next steps.

Step 2: Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause flickering.

  1. Go to Device Manager (Right-click Start > Device Manager).
  2. Expand Display adapters.
  3. Right-click your GPU (Intel/NVIDIA) and select Update driver > Search automatically.

Alternatively, download the latest drivers directly from:

  • Intel Graphics Drivers
  • NVIDIA Drivers

Step 3: Disable Hardware Acceleration (for apps like Chrome/Discord)

Some apps may cause flickering due to hardware acceleration.

  • In Chrome: Go to Settings > System > Disable "Use hardware acceleration when available" and restart Chrome.
  • In Discord: Go to Settings > Advanced > Disable Hardware Acceleration.

Step 4: Update BIOS

An outdated BIOS can also cause display issues.

  1. Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
  2. Enter your product number.
  3. Expand the BIOS section and download the latest version.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install. Ensure only the charger is connected during this process.

Step 5: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press Power and immediately tap Esc, then press F2.
  3. Run the System Test > Graphics Test.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
