touchpad worked fine until 30 mins ago. NO orange light on the touchpad. Have rebooted 2x, cursor is stuck in middle of screen

Looking at my machine, the whole thing seems to have locked up. The number lock light remains on, the cap lock light will not come on and none of the function keys work either.
Normally, I understand that if the touchpad is disabled, an orange light comes on but it is not on. Have tried tapping it several times but the whole machine seems frozen

Spoke to HP Customer service (in Banaglore) this morning who pointed out that a 500GB SSD is too much for my machine (which has the max 16GB RAM installed). Passed this news back to the guy who installed the new drive. He said that this did not make sense as my old drive was a 500GB SSD??
Have run diagnostics and the drives have all passed the tests. Seems there is some deep setting that I am missing?
