Hi @Karenmi1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've already tried uninstalling the camera driver and restarting your HP laptop but the camera still isn't working, you can try the following steps.

Check for Physical Issues:

  • Ensure that there's no physical cover or obstruction on the camera lens.
  • Some laptops have a physical switch or button to enable or disable the camera. Check your laptop for such a switch or button.

Update Camera Drivers:

  • Go to the Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu).
  • Locate the "Imaging devices" or "Cameras" section.
  • Right-click on your camera device and select "Update driver."
  • Choose the option to search for updated driver software automatically. If there is a newer driver available, it will be installed.

Roll Back Camera Driver:

  • If updating the driver doesn't solve the issue, you can try rolling back to the previous version.
  • In the Device Manager, right-click on your camera, select "Properties," go to the "Driver" tab, and click "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.

Check Privacy Settings:

  • Make sure that your operating system and any third-party security software are not blocking the camera. Check privacy settings to ensure that the camera is allowed to be accessed by applications.

Run Hardware Troubleshooter:

  • Use the built-in Windows troubleshooter to identify and fix hardware issues. You can find this in the Settings under "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot" > "Additional troubleshooters."

System Restore:

  • If the issue started recently, consider using System Restore to revert your system to a point when the camera was working.
  • Search for "Create a restore point" in the Start menu, go to the "System Protection" tab, and click on "System Restore."

Reinstall Camera Software:

  • If your camera came with specific software, reinstall it from the manufacturer's website.

Check in Safe Mode:

  • Boot your computer into Safe Mode and check if the camera works. If it does, the issue might be caused by a third-party application or driver.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your operating system is up to date. Install any pending updates, as they may include fixes for known issues.

Remember to back up your important data before making significant changes to your system, especially if you are considering a system restore.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
