Hi @josephc808,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
The screen distortion in your HP Envy x360 looks like a software-related issue, especially since you mentioned that it started happening after restoring your system. Here’s how you can troubleshoot:
Update/Reinstall Graphics Drivers
Go to Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
Expand Display Adapters and right-click on your GPU (Intel/AMD/NVIDIA).
Select Update driver → Search automatically for drivers.
If the issue persists, uninstall the driver and restart your PC. Windows will reinstall the default driver.
If automatic updates don’t work, download the latest driver from the HP website or the manufacturer’s website (Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA).
Check Windows Updates
Go to Settings (Win + I).
Click Windows Update → Check for updates.
Install any pending updates and restart your laptop.
Change Display Settings
Right-click on the desktop → Display settings.
Scroll down to Advanced display settings.
Try changing the refresh rate (e.g., 60Hz to 120Hz, if available).
If you have an AMD or NVIDIA GPU, open their respective control panels and reset display settings.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
Since you're already in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
Restart your PC and press F2 during boot.
Select Component Tests → Video Test.
If any errors appear, it could be a hardware issue.
Test with an External Monitor
Connect your laptop to an external display via HDMI or USB-C.
If the distortion appears only on your laptop screen, it could be a hardware issue (loose display cable or screen defect).
If the external display also shows glitches, it’s likely a GPU/driver issue.
Perform a Clean Boot
Press Win + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
Go to the Services tab → Check Hide all Microsoft services → Click Disable all.
Go to Startup → Open Task Manager → Disable all startup apps.
Restart your PC and see if the issue persists.
Let me know what helped.
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨

Hi @josephc808,
Thank you for the response.
Try these steps:
Check and Update Graphics Drivers
Since you restored your system, the graphics driver might not be fully updated or installed correctly.
Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
Expand Display Adapters → Right-click Intel Iris Xe Graphics.
Click Update driver → Search automatically for drivers.
If it doesn’t help, try downloading the latest Intel Iris Xe Graphics driver from the HP support website or Intel’s official site.
After installation, restart your system.
Adjust Refresh Rate Manually
Since you're only seeing 60Hz and 40Hz, try overriding it:
Right-click Desktop → Display settings → Advanced Display settings.
Click Display adapter properties for Display 1.
Go to the Monitor tab and check if you can manually set it to 60Hz.
If not, try Intel Graphics Command Center or Intel HD Graphics Control Panel.
Check Windows Display Settings
Go to Settings → System → Display.
Scroll down to Advanced display settings.
Ensure that your display is using RGB mode (not YCbCr or limited color range).
If an HDR option is available, try toggling it ON/OFF.
Try a Clean Boot (If the Issue Persists)
Open Run (Win + R), type msconfig, and press Enter.
Go to Services tab → Check Hide all Microsoft services → Click Disable all.
Go to Startup tab → Open Task Manager → Disable all startup programs.
Restart and check if the issue persists.
Test with an External Display
Connect an external monitor via HDMI or USB-C.
If the external display has correct color depth and refresh rate, it might be a hardware issue with your laptop screen or display cable.
I hope this helps.
