Hello; My 1,5 year old HP Pavilion laptop came with Windows 10 H. It was eligible for Windows 11 few months ago. I waited and updated it to W 11 H last week. Until this major update 'hibernate 'mode always worked. Waking the pc from hibernate was always smooth. After update, it became an issue. 'Sleep' mode, too. When I lift the laptop lid or press power button to resume, the desktop picture is on the screen. As soon as I move the usb mouse, the screen turns grey and nothing is visible.
I tried to update the display driver 'Intel UHD graphics' under device manager. it didn't worked. Device manager shows;
Intel (R) UHD graphics
Date: 2/25/20
version: 26.20,100.7926
Things that I tried with no success:
Change mouse usb port
Use a corded mouse
Scan SSD drive for issues
Update BIOS with HP assistant software that came with pc.
when this happens (grey screen) the only solution that works is pushing power button to turn it off and turn it back on.
I keep the laptop in sleep or hibernate mode when it is idle for many hours. it always worked with Windows 10. I can't figure it out why Windows 11 is causing trouble.
today, I downloaded and installed 'Intel driver and support assistant' from intel.com. after restarting pc I double-clicked that software and selected 'repair'. When I checked display driver with device manager I noticed date and version were still the same.
at this point what should I do?
Is my only option to simply use power button to shut it off when i don't use the laptop?
When the laptop screen turns grey, it occasionally flicks less than a second and I see the desktop picture. Then, it is grey again.
Thanks for the help.

I don't believe my pavilion came with a designated graphics card. I need to make sure though. How do I check that?
If your PC has the switchable Intel/Nvidia or Intel/AMD graphics ............. Also, how do I find this out?
Device manager on my laptop does not show what type of UHD graphics adapter (card?). Is that possible to figure that out?
Many questions. Sorry Paul.

Hi:
You are correct.
Your notebook only has the onboard Intel graphics adapter.
I checked the specifications before responding to your post.
So the method I described to update the Intel graphics adapter should work for your notebook.

I downloaded that Intel DSA utility. When I try to install it it tells me I already installed it. 2 options. repair or uinstall. I selected repair and restarted pc. I don't believe it did anything.

You have to manually install the graphics driver using the instructions I posted.
The Intel DSA won't do anything until the Intel driver from the zip file has been installed, and not until the next graphics driver update is released.
