Yep. I figured that out. unzipped the files. followed your instructions. picked the right file (iigd_dch) and installed it. After restarting pc, I went to device manager,
Display adapter now shows a newer driver. (date: 8/24/2022 version: 31.0.101.2114) 😁
Next question if you don't mind:🤔
updating intel hdmi audio driver. Should I go ahead do that now or should I wait to see if there is an audio problem? This HP laptop belongs to wifey, and she will never connect it to tv or another monitor via hdmi cable. thoughts?
Thanks again for your very valuable information.

You're very welcome.
Yes, I would go ahead and update the Intel audio driver so that both devices are updated.
All that audio driver does is to update the Intel HDMI audio.
It will have no effect on the notebook's internal speakers which are controlled by the Realtek audio device you see in the device manager.
If the Intel DSA notifies you of a graphics update, it will also install the HDMI audio driver if there is an update to that.

Well Paul; I was impatient and went ahead to update audio driver. Again, followed the instructions. Device manager tried to update and showed 'the best drivers are already installed'.
I am assuming it should be okay to leave the way it is. Perhaps, future Windows updates will update it.

Paul, just read your latest. Should I run that intel DSA app now?
edit: That DSA executable file I downloaded. It keeps showing the same thing! (Already installed. 3 options: close, repair and uninstall). I can't find this program with search box!! any idea where it might be?

OK, I guess Intel has not released an updated audio driver.
They don't do it very often, but I was thinking that after two years they might.
You can run the app now, and no doubt it will tell you that you have the most recent drivers.

I managed to find that DSA app under programs. never used it before. anyhow, I ran it. It showed 2 updates, wireless bluetooth and wi-fi drivers for intel wireless adapters. Nothing on Intel display audio.
I did the update.
Do I need to run that app occasionally? Or, do regular Windows updates update Intel drivers, too?
thanks.

You're very welcome.
I don't think the Intel DSA will provide an individual driver update notification for the Intel HD audio.
It will report an update for the graphics, and if there is an audio driver update in that file, it will install it as well.
You may want to run the Intel DSA occasionally if it doesn't automatically pop up and let you know of pending driver updates.
It should, if you left it at its default settings.
Windows update is hit or miss because that will only provide drivers if the manufacturers push the driver updates to Microsoft for inclusion in the Windows Update app.

Paul; The issue seems worse!
I should have waited few days to mark this thread 'solved'. Last night, I closed the lid which put the laptop in sleep mode. I lifted the lid today. Normally, the screen turns blue and gives me the password box when I press space bar. Well, the power button was lit up. But, the screen stayed pitch black! I waited a minute or two. it stayed the same. I pressed the power button to shut it off. I waited 15 seconds and pressed on it to turn it on. The driver loads fine with this method.
I am just puzzled why the updated video driver is still not functioning after sleep or hibernate mode. I don't want to roll it back to Windows 10. In few years, As you know Microsoft will stop supporting version 10.
The reason I want to use sleep/hibernate is extending the laptop's life when it is idle. Even with SSD drive I worry that I won't get more than 5-6 years. All of my HP laptops (with old fashioned HD's) in the past slowed down after 5-6 years.
Any suggestions?
Thanks Paul.
Edit: Under Device manager I updated the driver. The old version installed. The previous one, ver, 26.20.100.7926.
Should I leave it alone or reinstall the newer version as I did yesterday?

Hi:
Sorry the newer driver didn't work.
The only other suggestion I can offer, would be to install the latest HP W10 driver for your notebook.
Driver - HP Pavilion - 15-cs3153cl | HP® Customer Support
DEVICES SUPPORTED:
Intel Iris Plus Graphics, Intel UHD Graphics, Intel UHD Graphics 610, Intel UHD Graphics 620, Intel UHD Graphics 630
Then if the driver installs, run the Microsoft Hide Windows update utility that I zipped up and attached below.
That should prevent the 26.20.100.7926 version from automatically reinstalling.
The utility will find the update, you check the box to hide the update, the utility will run again and report the problem is 'fixed.'
Then you can close out of the utility.
See if the notebook works right with the HP driver.
If not, then run the hide Windows update utility again, select the option to unhide updates and, check the box to allow the 26.20.100.7926 version to appear and it will install when you click on the Update driver option in the device manager like you did to get the old version back.
