Welcome to HP Support Community, @Mallesha_E
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
1. Verify Hardware Capabilities
Confirm that both your laptop and the external monitor support 4K (3840 × 2160) resolution.
The HP 240 R G9 typically supports up to 4K at 30Hz via HDMI.
For higher refresh rates such as 60Hz, a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter (if supported) or an HP Docking Station may be required.
2. Update Graphics Drivers
Your system uses Intel UHD Graphics, which must have the latest drivers installed for optimal 4K support.
Option 1: Windows Update
- Connect your laptop to the internet.
- Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates and install any available driver updates.
Option 2: HP Support Assistant
- Open HP Support Assistant from the taskbar or Start menu.
- Go to the Updates section.
- Install any available graphics or BIOS updates.
Option 3: Intel Driver & Support Assistant
- Visit Intel Driver & Support Assistant
.Allow the tool to automatically detect and install the latest Intel UHD Graphics driver.
3. Adjust Display Settings
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
- Under Display resolution, select 3840 × 2160 (Recommended) if available.
- Scroll down and select Advanced display settings.
- Check the refresh rate. If you experience lag or flickering, try adjusting between 30Hz and 60Hz.
4. Check Monitor Configuration
- Ensure the monitor’s input source (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) matches the cable connection.
- Use the monitor’s on-screen menu to confirm that the resolution and refresh rate are set to 4K-compatible values.
- Verify that the monitor’s firmware is up to date.
5. Test Different Cables and Ports
Use a certified HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.4 cable to ensure full 4K compatibility.
Try a different HDMI or USB-C port on your laptop if available.
Test with another 4K monitor, if possible, to rule out monitor or cable limitations.
6. If the Issue Persists
- Collect the following details before contacting HP Support:
- Monitor make and model
- Connection type (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, etc.)
- Screenshot of the Display settings > Advanced display settings page
- Current Intel UHD Graphics driver version (Device Manager > Display adapters > Properties > Driver tab)
- Once gathered, contact HP Support for further analysis and assistance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
