EDITED ON 5/20/20 TO POST TO ADD PHOTOS:  It is impossible to close the laptop without further trim separation at hinge.  Apologize for format of photos & couldn't figure out how to rotate.

I searched this topic today & joined the community just so I could ask this question and describe my experience.

In the past few months or so, I started to notice a clicking sound when I would open my laptop and soon after discovered that the noise was coming from the lower right-hand corner of the screen.  Apparently, the plastic panel/trim that surrounds the screen was separating at the corner.  I wasn't too concerned b/c I didn't notice any other issues, so when this would happen, I would snap it back into place.  Seemed easy enough.  No problems.  Everything kept working just fine.  No issues with the monitor, display, etc.

However, when I opened my laptop today, I heard the sound as usual but then noticed that the panel/trim had separated almost mid-way along the side of the screen.  I also noticed that more of it had come apart near the hinge and the plastic piece that covers the hinge had fallen off.  I haven't been able to open the laptop further nor have I been able to close it b/c it has separated and will not go back into place.

My laptop is almost 4 years old.  I have never dropped nor damaged my laptop in any way - it sits on the floor next to my couch - and I have never placed it in any situation where it could be damaged by others nor have I ever let anyone use my laptop.  After reading other comments about this topic, many others are clearly in the same boat and it is apparent that this is a design flaw.  I'm now at as loss as to what I should do b/c I can't close my laptop and it is no longer under warranty.   Is there anything that HP can do to help in this situation?  During the current pandemic situation, I am working from home and need & use this laptop on a daily basis.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!
