Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!
HP Recommended
HP Pavilion 16 inch Laptop PC 16-ag0000 (955U1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

The bright colors are ok

The dark colors are not ok, they are too dark and seem to be black.

When you watch a video, you don't see the details in the dark colors, you just see black

Either the screen is really bad, or there might be a driver issue

Maybe there is a color schema to apply, or correct the histogram ?

or they is maybe a nvidia utility ?

thank you

Hi @hervefrench,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I can understand how frustrating it must be to experience issues with dark colors on your HP Pavilion laptop screen, especially when watching videos. It can really affect your viewing experience. Let’s work through some questions and troubleshooting steps to help you get to the bottom of this issue.

  • Have you checked your display settings to see if there are any brightness or contrast adjustments that might improve the visibility of dark colors?
  • Have you tried connecting your laptop to an external monitor or TV to see if the issue persists there as well? This can help determine if the problem is with the laptop screen or the graphics settings.
  • Did you make any recent changes to your laptop, such as installing new software, updates, or graphics drivers, that might have affected the display quality?

Adjust Display Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Display. Check the Brightness and color settings and adjust the brightness slider. Also, look for any Night Light settings that could be affecting color temperatures and disable them if necessary.

Color Calibration:

  • Use the Windows Color Calibration tool. Search for "Calibrate display color" in the Windows search bar and follow the on-screen instructions. This can help adjust the gamma, brightness, contrast, and color balance to improve your display quality.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and check for the latest graphics drivers for your model. You can also check for updates via Device Manager:
    • Right-click the Start button > Device Manager > expand Display adapters > right-click your graphics card (e.g., NVIDIA) > select Update driver.

NVIDIA Control Panel:

  • If you have NVIDIA graphics, right-click on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel. Under Display > Adjust desktop color settings, you can tweak the brightness, contrast, and gamma settings specifically for your NVIDIA graphics.

Test with an External Monitor:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor using HDMI or another compatible connection. If the dark colors appear normal on the external display, it indicates an issue with your laptop’s screen or its internal connections.

I know it can be really disheartening when display issues affect your experience, but we can work through these steps together to find a solution. Please let me know how it goes!

Hi,

this not nvidia, my bad, this radeon the graphic card.

I just tell you, the screen is bad, bad color display, especially on dark scenes.

I have 35 years experience in IT.

This is the brand new pavilion 16-ag0xxx laptop, so you should know that there is not contrast setting.

The only tweak I could do is to install the AMD adrenalin edition which has a slider to enhance color
