Many thanks, indeed. And I'm definitely saving this information. I thought I was actually going to have to do this, but it turns out my problem is different (easier), so I'm posting about it to let others know.

Mine appears to be heat-related, but only when the computer is running on battery.  I purchased this device in July 2010 and found that I would lose Wi-Fi if I rebooted when the unit was too warm. Once it cooled down, Wi-Fi was back. (Upon restart, the Wi-Fi loss would be reported by the unit as an error message, even before Windows 7 loaded.)

That hasn't happend for a long time, but what has happened  a few times in the past couple of months is the total loss of touch input, including the fingerprint reader, upon a reboot or reawakening if the unit is too warm. (The mousepad still works.) 

Note 1: the unit works fine being very warm as long as it does not go to sleep or is not restarted. It's upon waking up or being rebooted that the "touch" loss occurs, and I have to shut down/cool down.  Then all functionality is magically back again! 

 

Note 2: the overheating doesn't happen all the time, either. Right now, I've been using it on battery for hours, and it's barely warm. I've come to know the signs, though. (I probably do need a new battery at this point, too.)

Thank you for the photos Rakesh1988.   I followed the instructions and it worked perfectly.

 

note: in my case, upon opening it up, the cord did not seem detached. But I unplugged it and plugged it back in. When I turned it back on the touch screen worked perfectly again.

Tips: for users like me not used to taking apart laptops.

 

Once the 3 screws are removed, they only hold the narrow bezzel surounding the screen.

Work it from the bottom to start unsnapping, around both sides to the top.  It's tight!

(I used a smaller flathead screw driver)

 

Then, you only have to remove the 4 screws under the bezzel, to move the screen slightly to the side.

Then  use tweezers to gently pull out the said connector, from the side, (it comes out easily)

 

Cleaned with alcohol, re-inserted, used a little tape to maybe keep it in place longer.

 

Powering on....the Touch Screen was immeadeately reconized and worked perfectly!
