Recently got a new HP laptop and I seem to have a problem with my screen resolution. When on You tube and selecting drop down menus or scrolling on a video timeline within You tube, the text within the drop down menu or the video preview screen rather than being black and at the forefront of the main video, appears translucent. In short the texts or the timeline small preview video screen take on the colour of whatever the background video is. So if the video in the rear has light colours, you can't read or see anything clearly. If the video has multiple colours as normally is the case, you end up with multi-colour text and/or preview screen. Recently I was on a website trying to selecting basic text drop down menu. The drop down menu appeared but the text within were unreadable and blurry basically seemed translucent. had to go on my phone to read the drop down menus. Another thing i just noticed is when i select a program from the task bar at the bottom a preview appears which is semi translucent. After say 10 section the preview appears clearer and is at the forefront of the windows desktop screen. HP support seem baffled and have update my operating systems and all updates, but problem still persist. Never had this with my older HP although the graphics card went and the issues seem similar. Can anyone help

Not actually run into this myself -- but I suspect it is a video hardware problem with your laptop.
You should try the following: right-click on the desktop and choose Personalize. Then select Fonts. This should display a window with lots of different fonts. They should appear as black text on a white background and be both clear and crisp. If you also get the translucent effect here, then you most likely have a video hardware problem and that is not something you can fix on your own.
I don't know why HP support did not suggest this, but you should re-contact them about getting the laptop replaced if it has problems with displaying these fonts.

WAWOOD Appreciate the suggestion below. Tried this and the Texts are white on black grounds. trying playing around with settings and now find texts on the normal desktop goes blurry / translucent and then refreshes. Thinking I agree with you about graphics / video issue.

Since the video is also unstable, you should definitely see about getting the laptop replaced or refunded.
