There has been a vertical line since the first day I got this laptop, sometimes it gets wider, changes color or starts blinking. The line is also shown on the BIOS screen. Restarting the laptop and upgrading the drivers didn't solve the problem. The HP hardware diagnostics didn't find any problem either. The line is not shown on a external monitor so it might be a laptop's screen problem.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems ...
(1) Simple question: Does an external connected monitor (vga/hdmi) show the same error ?
You answered: >The line is not shown on a external monitor so it might be a laptop's screen problem.
(A) YES => GPU (graphic processing unit) error
(❎ B) NO => Internal display cable and/or screen error
(2) Recommendation and solutions
< If you can live with it, leave it that way >
or
< You should have it serviced by a professional notebook repair store >
