Hi @terry1002

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for raising this—it's understandably frustrating when your printer keeps printing alignment pages unprompted, especially when it affects your page count.

This behavior typically occurs when the printer believes a cartridge installation or printhead calibration is incomplete. Here’s how to stop it:

Steps to Prevent Unwanted Alignment Page Printing

1. Complete the Alignment Process

  • Load plain white paper into the tray
  • Let the printer print the alignment page
  • Place the printed page face-down on the scanner glass as instructed
  • Press the Start Copy Color button to complete the scan

If this step isn’t completed, the printer may repeat the alignment every time it powers on.

2. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Open the cartridge access door
  • Remove and reinsert both cartridges, ensuring they’re seated firmly
  • Confirm there’s no protective tape left on the cartridge contacts

3. Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause repeated alignment cycles. You can update it here:

Download the latest firmware for your operating system and install it with the printer powered on and connected.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer
  • Unplug it from the wall and wait 60 seconds
  • Plug it back in and power it on

This can help clear persistent alignment requests caused by internal memory glitches.

Let me know if the issue continues after these steps. We’ll make sure your printer behaves—and your page count stays where it should.
