Hello all,

As you can tell by my title, I am having trouble with Bluetooth on my hp laptop. Whenever I have wifi on I am unable to pair bluetooth devices, the blutooth quality is terrible and devices will disconnect after a few minutes. Bluetooth is fine when I am off wifi.

I have tried:

- reinstalling and using different drivers

- reinstalling windows

- using both a 2.4 ghz & 5ghz network

- Changing the wifi channels

None of the above has worked. Thanks fo

@jamiedarcy I suggest you manually change the network settings as that can resolve wireless/Bluetooth connection issues.

Create a restore point in Windows, and then manually change the network settings.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Create a restore point.

  2. On the System Properties window, click Create.

Clicking Create on the System Properties window

  3. Type a name for the restore point, and then click Create.

    Windows creates the restore point.

  4. In Windows, search for Command Prompt. In the results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

If a User Account Control message displays, click Yes.

Opening a Command Prompt as Administrator

  5. Type the following commands one at a time, pressing Enter after each one:

    • netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled

    • netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

    • netsh int tcp set global rss=enabled

    Typing commands in Command Prompt

  6. To open the TCP Global Settings, type netsh int tcp show global in Command Prompt, and then press Enter.

  7. Make sure all settings are disabled except Receive-Side Scaling State.

Settings are disabled except Receive-Side Scaling State

  8. Close Command Prompt, restart the computer, and then try to connect to the Internet.

Thanks for the help, Unfortunately, nothing has changed. Bluetooth connections are still patchy when wifi is turned on, and eventually discconnect. Any other ideas?

@jamiedarcy Did you try reinstalling the wireless adapter? (please do, if you haven't)

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

  1. Remove All Barriers: Certain building materials can get in the way of weaker signals like Bluetooth. Metal, bulletproof glass, concrete and plaster are particularly bad, and marble, plaster and brick aren’t great easy. So if you’re really struggling with interference, your first step should be to move your Bluetooth devices away from these materials. That means no brick walls between you and your devices, and definitely no metal desks!

  2. Change Router Channel: If you have an Apple router and you’re constantly getting interference with your WiFi, try rebooting it. Upon restart, the station will search for a new channel. Specifically, a different channel than the one your Bluetooth devices are using to communicate. If you don’t have an Apple router, you may need to instead go into your router settings and try changing the channel manually. Experiment with different channels to see which one works best.

  3. Move Closer to Your Router: If you often find that you’re getting interference when talking on a wireless headset while on a WiFi call (you’ll know because you’ll hear static), try moving closer to your router. This will give you a more robust WiFi connection, so the Bluetooth frequency can’t overpower it.

  4. Get Away From Microwaves and Fluorescent Lighting: Both emit frequencies of 2.4GHz, and moving away from them will distance you from the source.

Let me know how that pans out,

Good luck!
