Spectre x360 13

I purchased the HP Spectre x360 13in laptop in January, 2018. 

 

The problem I'm continuing to have is BlueTooth becomes unavailable, usually after the machine goes to sleep for a while.

 

In addition to bluetooth devices, such as a BT mouse, no longer working, going to the Bluetooth & other devices settings window, the switch to turn on/off Bluetooth is no longer present and all the paired devices list the indication that Bluetooth is OFF.

 

The only remedy to restore Bluetooth is to reboot the laptop which is really annoying. Has anyone else seen this issue and anyone aware of a solution? Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 

I understand that you have an HP Spectre x360 13 series laptop. I read that the Bluetooth feature becomes unavailable and stops working. Mostly this happens after the laptop resumes from the sleep mode. I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

 

Did any software changes or updates happen on the laptop recently after which this issue started?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix: 

 

Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on and set to be discoverable on the device. When a device is set to be discoverable, it uses radio signals to broadcast its location to other Bluetooth devices and computers.

  • A device such as a wireless mouse or a keyboard might have a button on it that you need to push.

  • A device such as a Bluetooth mobile phone might have a setting in the menu that you need to select to turn on Bluetooth so the device can be discovered.

       NOTE: If you do not know how to set your device to be discoverable, check the information that came with your device or go to the manufacturer website.

  • A device such as computer might need to have the Discovery setting turned on.

    To turn on Discovery in Windows, search for and open Bluetooth and other devices settings.

    The Bluetooth & other devices window opens.

    Click More Bluetooth options, in the Discovery area on the Options tab, click Allow Bluetooth devices to find this PC, and then click OK.

Check the following items to troubleshoot Bluetooth issues.

  • Make sure the device is turned on, is not low on battery power, and is not in sleep mode.

  • Make sure the device is within wireless range of your computer, usually within six to nine feet. If you are not sure if the device is in range, move it closer to your computer, or put the device and computer in the same room.

  • Make sure there are no other devices interfering with the wireless device, such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, or other wireless devices.

  • Make sure the Bluetooth radio transmitter is turned on. Many notebook computers have a button to turn the transmitter on and off. If you are not sure how to turn on the transmitter, check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer website.

If the issue still persists then let us check the Bluetooth services. The following steps will help:

  • Search and open services.msc in Windows 10. The following window will open.

  • In this window, right click on "Bluetooth Support Service" and select restart.
  • It will take a few seconds for Windows to restart the Bluetooth services.
  • Similarly, if there are other Bluetooth services then please enable or restart them.

NOTE: The charger must be connected until the BIOS update is complete to avoid any power interruptions due to battery draining out. 

 

You may disable the power options for the bluetooth if it continues to turn off after going into sleep mode. The following steps will help:

  • Open the device manager: https://hp.care/2DaeDKk
  • Expand "Bluetooth".
  • Right click on the Bluetooth drivers and select properties. Below image is an example from my computer:

  • Click on on the power management tab.
  • uncheck the option that says "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power."
  • Click on OK.

Likewise, perform the same steps for the wireless card in your laptop. The wireless card will be available in "Network adapters" in the device manager.

Same problem. After sleep/hibernation the mouse (HP Spectre Bluetooth Mouse 500) is not working no matter what.

 

By the way, its properties in the Device Mananager do not contain the Power Management tab,mouse.png
