Hi @Ssgoku
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
We understand that you've already replaced the black printhead in the HP Smart Tank 7602, but the printer continues to display a "Missing Printhead," "Printhead Problem," or "No Printhead Detected" message. Since the issue persists even with a replacement printhead.
Let’s go through a structured set of steps to help the printer recognize the print head again.
Check print head seating
- Open the print head access area.
- Remove both print heads (black and tri‑color).
- Reinsert them firmly until you hear a click. Even a slight misalignment can trigger the error.
Inspect the latch mechanism
- Ensure the latch that holds the print heads is fully closed and locked.
- If the latch is loose or partially open, the printer may not detect the print head.
Clean electrical contacts again
- Use a lint‑free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Gently wipe the copper contacts on the print head and the corresponding contacts inside the carriage.
- Allow them to dry completely before reinserting.
Update printer firmware
- Install the latest firmware to ensure the printer’s detection logic is current:
Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support
Run HP App diagnostics
- Open the HP App on your Windows or macOS device.
- Select your printer → Settings → Advanced → Diagnose & Fix.
- This tool can automatically check for communication issues between the printer and print heads.
Perform a hard reset
- Power off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cable from both the printer and wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect and power on. This clears residual states that may cause false detection errors.
Test with a print job
- After reseating and cleaning, try printing a test page.
- If the error persists, test with both print heads individually (insert one at a time) to see if the issue is isolated to a specific head.
By carefully reseating the print heads, ensuring the latch is secure, cleaning contacts, and updating firmware, the printer should be able to detect the print heads again and resume normal printing.
Have a great day!
