Hi Paul,

I actually haven't yet - I was asking for the drivers as a preparation - I'm trying my luck

A few years back, I had a major issue and I had to install everything from scratch, including the BIOS - I used the sp61005 driver - do you think that would help breaking the whitelist?

Otherwise, if I upgrade to W10 first, would that do the trick?

Hi:

Unfortunately, updating the BIOS or upgrading to W10, won't get the Intel card to work. 

You can try the card and see what happens, but I am almost certain the BIOS is going to reject the Intel wifi adapter, and prevent the notebook from booting up.

Then, what's the condition that works in some cases? Newer laptop with different BIOS versions?

Yes. 

Until 2014, most HP notebooks had BIOS whitelists.

I believe that the g6-2200/g6-2300 model series may not have had the whitelist, and those were some of the very few models made before 2014, that didn't.

Hey Paul.

Just wanted to give you feedback that I did try replacing the card and unfortunately, as you warned, it really failed.

Follow up questions:

 - Do you know if Broadcom released a newer (dual-band) card that would not be flagged by the whitelist?

Or

 - If I upgrade the BIOS to a new version that would erase the whitelist - I've seen another thread here where the user asked you this and stated it did work for him

Hi:

I don't know of any way you can install a different model Wi-Fi card.

If you found a discussion where someone updated the BIOS on the same g6-1cxx model series with an Intel processor and was able to install a different Wi-Fi adapter, then that would be up to you to try it.

HP retired support for your notebook, so if you want to update the BIOS you can get the last update that HP released for your notebook from this reputable 3rd party vendor at the link below.

Thank you for replying so quick.From the source you indicated, I couldn't find anything new, F.37 from 2013 is apparently the last - it's the same version I already have so, I guess there's nothing else left other than buying an external adapter, something I didn't want to do at all

Yes, that would be the only option I know of for your notebook.
