I have been connecting my laptop to my tv via a HDMI cable.  Whenever I wanted to project to the TV, I would connect the HDMI cable, switch to the HDMI input on my TV, right click on my desktop and choose duplicate (this would then detect the tv as the external monitor) and duplicate the laptop screen on the TV.  Now that is not happening anymore and Im unable to have the laptop even detect the tv or project the screen onto the tv.

Are there some drivers Im missing, cause i have downloaded the chipset driver, the Intel graphics driver, the AMD graphics driver, the intel management interfaces driver from the hp website.  So why is the connection not working anymore?

How do I fix this?  Please help

Hi! @shashgo1, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have HDMI issues with your PC.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Have you tried checking with a different HDMI cable?

Try connecting the TV to a different HDMI port and check if the issue persists.

Also, connect the TV to a different PC and check if you are able to see the display.

Try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Please uninstall the graphics driver from device manager and update the graphics driver and BIOS from the link below.

Go to windows desktop

Hold Windows key + Letter R key.

Run dialog box would open type devmgmt.msc

Device manager window will open.

Expand display adapter.

Right click and click uninstall.

Restart your PC and install the graphics driver.

Update the graphics driver using this link. Click Here

Update the BIOS using this link. Click Here

You can update other drivers on your PC using HP support assistant.

Refer this article to know more information about using HP support assistant.

Lastly, try running a system diagnostics test on your PC and check if the hardware components on your PC are functioning correctly.

@shashgo1, Thanks for your quick response and time.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

Have you tried checking with a different HDMI cable?

As you mentioned after reinstalling windows 7 you have issues.

Try updating the graphics driver and BIOS from my previous post and check if it helps.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps. It is a hardware issue with the HDMI port.

I will share you few details in a private message. Please watch your inbox for more information.

Hope this answers your query!

I have checked the HDMI cable, and the cable is good. I used it from another device to the tv and it gave teh correct display.

I remember that in the past, several months ago, when I connected the HDMI to the TV and the laptop, I had to select the screen duplicate option, and thats when the screen on the tv would duplicate the laptop, and the dropdown in the screen resolution would show hisense as the external montor.

Then, more recently, the only way I could get the output of the laptop on the screen is when I manipulated the graphics drivers, or unisnstalled one and left the other two. (the three drivers I played around with were the Intel graphics, the AMD graphics and the Intel Management driver), but there was no definite way that I had to say that any one solution worked, sometimes what I did earlier would work again, sometimes it would not.  Selecting the duplicate option did not seem to make any change.  Anyway, I had to try different combinations along with powering down the TV and the laptop each time.  And when the tv did mirror the   laptop, I went into screen resolution to check if the laptop was recognizing the tv, but it didnt, the only thing was that the laptop screen showed 1|2, indicating that it was duplicating on both screens.

Now I cannot get the screen to duplicate at all.  Whe I right click the audio icon, I am seeing an option under the playback tab of HDMI audio, so that tells me that the computer is sensing the audio cable.  So why is it not displaying the video.  Is it something to do with the refresh rate or resolution size or am i missing some drivers?

do I need to install the AMD Graphics driver?

I got the laptop to finally connect to the TV.  Yay!!!  But Im still not getting HDMI output from the TV speakers, the audio is only coming out from the laptop speakers.  When I right click on the audio icon, I just see the laptop speakers listed, and not the hdmi speakers.  In device manage, I have an entry under the sound section for AMD Hig Definition Audio but it has a yellow exclamation in it, and even when I say update the driver, and it checks the internet, it says I have the best driver already installed , but I still have the yellow exclamation mark

Why is the driver not installing properly

I uninstalled the AMD entry and did a check hardware changes in device manager, and it seems to download a driver, but I still have the yellow exclamation mark

@shashgo1, Thanks for your quick response again.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned you are able to get the display on your TV after installing the drivers. But the audio is coming out of the laptop.

I'm glad to know you are able to view the picture on your TV now. And not to worry try the steps recommended below to fix the audio issues.

Right-click the volume control icon on the bottom taskbar and click on "Playback Devices" to open the pop-up window for sound options. In the "Playback" tab, select "Digital Output Device" or "HDMI" as the default device, click "Set Default" and click "OK" to save the changes. This method works with a straight HDMI-to-HDMI connection.

Also, as you mentioned you see a yellow exclamation mark on the display adapter.

Try right click on the display adapter and click update driver.

Then select search automatically for updated driver software.

It should find and install the best drivers for your PC.

Let me know if this works!

Take Care! 🙂

Hello,

Yesterday when I was able to connect my laptop to the tv, I noticed in device manage that as part of the regular windows updates, another driver had gotten installed in the display adapters section, the driver was "ATI Radeon mobility HD5650".  So now there were two drivers, Intel HD and this one.

At this point, the driver in the Sound section which was called AMD HighDef or something was still showing a yellow exclamation mark, and therefore the option of HDMI speaker was not showing up under the sound icon.  And even though I tried to update this manuall by saying update driver or check for hardware changes, the driver would not update and the yellow exclamation mark would not go away and the option for HDMI speaker would not show up.   A message would show up saying "This driver is up to date" even though it wasnt.  But after some time, the automatic windows update updated this and the yellow mark went away and the otpion for HDMI speaker showed up.  So now all was well.

I turned the computer off.  When I came back an hour or so later and turned the computer back on, the ATI driver had dissapeared from the display driver section, and so had the AMD driver from the sound section of the device manager.  And like before there was no output on the tv screen again.  So Im wondering why this is happening, any ideas?

@shashgo1, Thanks for your quick response and time again.

I have checked the records according to the specifications of your PC.

There was 1GB discrete graphics shipped with your PC. So you see 2 graphics driver listed in device manager.

Download and install the AMD auto detect driver on your PC and check if it helps. Click Here

Also, try the steps recommended below to fix audio issues on your PC.

1. Go to Device Manager.

2. Expand category System devices and you will see two identical items called High Definition Audio Controller under this category. If they are disabled, you can see there is an arrow mark next to the device name. In this case, right-click on the one which is disabled and click Enable on the context menu.

Next, If the HDMI is not listed in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound Panel playback section. RIGHT click in a blank area in that panel and select show disabled and disconnected devices. If it then displays the HDMI you can then select it as default playback device and you should get HDMI audio. But, if it still does not display that USUALLY indicates a problem with the Video drivers.

I'll watch your reply!

Take Care! 🙂
