Hello,

I know its been a while.  You said that I should see two graphics adapters listed in device manager.  Sometimes I do and sometimes I dont.

When I do see the two adapters, they are initially both labeled as windows basic display adapter and then one becomes intel and one becomes amd hd mobilility 5650 as the drivers are installed automatically by windows.

But the two adapters show up only sometimes, otherwise its just one adapter that becomes Intel HD.

Why dont I see two adapters every time?

It looks like you were interacting with @A4Apollo, but he is out for the day. I'm KrazyToad & I'm at your service.

I have gone through your Post with @A4Apollo  and I see you have tried several crucial troubleshooting steps

To ensure it's not the OS causing this issue, I suggest you backup your data and perform a System  Recovery

- Turn off the computer.Disconnect all connected devices and cables such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key about once every second until the Choose an option screen is displayed, and then continue.
- On the Choose an Option screen, click Troubleshoot.
- On the Troubleshoot screen, click Recovery Manager.
- Under Help, click System Recovery.
- When Recovery Manager prompts you to back up your files, select a backup option:
- The Welcome to HP Recovery Manager screen is displayed. Read the on-screen information, and then disconnect any connected devices and cables, such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Remove media from internal drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware.
- Click Next to continue.
- When recovery preparation is complete, click Continue to proceed to the installation phase of the recovery process. The computer restarts several times during the recovery. This is normal. Do not close, shut down, or disconnect the computer while HP Recovery runs.
- Recovery Manager reformats the Windows partition and reinstalls the original software.
- After the system recovery is complete, click Finish to restart the computer. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup.
- Once the setup is complete, turn off the computer, reconnect all devices and cables, and then turn on the computer.
- Before using the computer, update and protect your computer by reinstalling any virus and security software that was installed before the system recovery.
- Reinstall any software programs that were added after purchasing the computer, as well as any files that were backed up.

Thank you

Hello @KrazyToad,

I have also reloaded the OS several times, to see whether that is the issue.  What happens is that when I reload the OS, the device manager does show two entries under Display Adapters, and both initially says microsoft basic graphic adapter.  After I install the two graphics drivers from the HP site, one becomes Intel HD and the other becomes AMD Radeon Mobility HD 5650.  And the computer can then project both video and sound to the TV.

After I turn the computer off, it is a questionable as to whether the Display Adapters section will still show the two entries or not.  Sometimes both the adapters are listed, but not always.  So, why does the other graphics adapter dissapear?

Please run a Video Test from F2 diagnostic to confirm the Hardware functionality

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.

Selecting Component Tests from the main menu
  4. The Component Tests menu displays.

Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

I did the diagnosis, there is no way to do just a video diagnosis, as my menu looks like the attached picture.  I pressed f2 again, id the start up test, then after that was done pressed f3, did that test, all passed.  Then when I rebooted the computer, there were two entries under display adaptors in device manager.

However, about 6 hours after I had turned the computer off, there was again no display to the tv, so I did the thing again, going through the diagnostics.  Everything was still clean and passed. so booted up, and again there were two entries.  Today, again the display on the tv was gone, so I did the diagnostic again, everything passed, but now only one evtry showed up.  And then running the AMD driver cant do anything cause that second entry is not there under display adaptor.

So why does that second entry show up only sometimes.  And is that entry caused by running adriver?

@shashgo1, thanks for your prompt response and time again.

I appreciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned you don't see a video test on the diagnostics and you don't see the AMD drivers listed in device manager.

It looks like a hardware issue with your PC. I will share you few details though a private message.

Please watch your inbox for more information.

Have a great day ahead!

Take Care! 🙂
