I moved from Hilton Head, SC to Kansas City, MO recently and have not been able to connect my HP desktop to my HP Envy Photo 7800 printer. My desktop is Windows 10 and I have not converted to Windows 11 on advice of my Computer Club.
I only use my desktop for limited personal purposes.
The "tower" symbol on the printer is a steady blue color but when I attempt to print from my desktop I get a message on my desktop to Download to PDF file?
Can you help me connect my printer to my HP desktop?

Hi @John8451938,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for the detailed context, and yes, I can help you reconnect your HP Envy Photo 7800 printer to your Windows 10 (32-bit) HP desktop after the move and Wi-Fi change.
It sounds like:
- The printer is connected to Wi-Fi (solid blue "tower" symbol = connected ✅)
- But your desktop doesn't see the printer, and you're only getting a “Save to PDF” option instead of the printer.
Let’s fix that in clear steps, starting with reconnecting the printer to your new Wi-Fi and then setting it up on your desktop.
Step 1: Reset Printer Wi-Fi & Reconnect
Let’s reconnect your printer to the new home Wi-Fi:
🖨️ Reset Wireless Settings on HP Envy Photo 7800
- On the printer touchscreen, tap Setup (gear icon).
- Go to Network Setup or Wireless Settings.
- Select Restore Network Settings or Reset Wireless Settings.
- Confirm the reset.
📶 Reconnect to Your New Wi-Fi
- Go back to Wireless Setup Wizard (under Network/Wireless Settings).
- Select your new Wi-Fi network name.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password using the on-screen keyboard.
- Wait for the blue light to turn solid again (which means successful connection).
Step 2: Add Printer to Your HP Desktop (Windows 10)
Once the printer is on the same Wi-Fi as your desktop:
🔍 Check if Windows Sees the Printer
- On your desktop, press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Click “Add a printer or scanner”.
- Wait and see if HP ENVY Photo 7800 appears.
- Click on it > Add Device.
If added, try printing a test page.
Please try the rest of the steps shared below

Hi @John8451938,
Please continue the rest of the steps below
Step 3: Install/Reinstall HP Driver (If Printer Not Found)
If your PC doesn't see the printer automatically:
✅ Use HP Smart App (Best for Home Use)
- Download and install HP Smart - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store.
- Open HP Smart > Click “Add Printer”.
- It should detect the printer on Wi-Fi.
- Follow the on-screen steps to finish setup.
OR
🖱️ Manually Install Full Feature Software
Go to:
➡️ HP ENVY Photo 7800 All-in-One Printer series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- Select Windows 10 (32-bit)
- Download the Full Feature Software and Drivers
- Run the installer and follow prompts to detect and install your printer.
Step 4: Test It
After installation:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
- Right-click on HP Envy Photo 7800 > Set as Default Printer
- Try printing a simple document.
If it works, you're all set!
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
