I have a defective Envy 17t-cr100. As described previously on this board, Wi-Fi completely disappears. My machine is a year out of warranty, but the issue has recured probably 7 or 8 times starting shortly after purchase. HP support has the case documentation under my phone number and my wife's. Long hours spend troubleshooting. She normally uses this notebook for work. In prior instances, HP support was able to get the wireless adapter working. This time, however, nothing worked. I bought Smart Friend support because the warranty is expired. Ended up doing a complete Windows re-install from a thumb drive -- then no option when setup got to the network connection page. I think there used to be more mentions of the trouble in this forum. There's a fairly recent entry from 2025. A couple of support agents tried to put me through to the warranty department to make my case, but the call dropped or disconnected. Other agents refused, telling me they're prohibited from doing so. This is apparently a known defect -- probably an intermittent wifi adapter card. I'm hoping this board is monitored by HP personnel empowered to help customers for repair or credit when a defect is known and documented.

Hi @tkw060,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC's connectivity!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Network Adapter Settings:
- Open Device Manager, go to Network adapters, and locate your Wi-Fi adapter.
- Right-click on it, choose Properties, and ensure that the device is enabled.
- Navigate to the Power Management tab and make sure “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” is unchecked.
Update Wireless Drivers:
- Use HP Support Assistant to check for the latest drivers.
- Alternatively, visit the HP Support - Software and Driver Downloads page, and search for your Envy 17t model to find and download the latest Wi-Fi driver update.
Reinstall Wi-Fi Drivers:
- Uninstall the Wi-Fi driver from Device Manager.
- Restart your laptop and let Windows detect and install the driver automatically.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Make sure your Windows system is updated, as updates can sometimes fix compatibility issues and improve performance.
Disable Fast Startup:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does.
- Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable," and uncheck "Turn on fast startup."
Check BIOS Settings:
- Ensure your BIOS settings have not disabled the Wi-Fi adapter. Sometimes, resetting BIOS to default settings might resolve hardware setting issues.
Hardware Issue: Given the recurring nature of these problems, it might be worth considering a hardware issue. Examine if any physical damage or loose connections within the laptop might be affecting the Wi-Fi adapter.
I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi:
Thanks for getting back to me. I repaired the computer myself yesterday by changing out the defective wifi card with an AX200. It's obvious that the RTL8852CE had problems from the start and should have been identified during the multiple support calls that both me and my wife placed to HP. Check out symtoms of a defective wifi card and the history of RTL8852CE.
Defective WiFi Adapter Symptoms - Grok
We lost a lot of time chasing support and suffered repeated wifi outages, plus $51.99 for HP Smart Friend support, the cost of the new wifi adapter and the installation toolkit. Can HP offer compensation in this situation?
Best regards,
Tim
