My problem is this HP spectre laptop will not recognize or connect to the ATT wifi in my home. This has been an ongoing problem for over a year and I have read every forum and tried every tip I can find. I recently updated my laptop/windows by an automatic update and had wifi connectivity for 4 days. Then it suddently stopped connecting.
My wifi will connect to every device in my home. So ATT says it is an HP problem. But my laptop will connect to every wifi I try, hotels, hotspot on my Verizon phone, wifi at work. So it seems my wifi networking card works just fine.
The problem is my ATT wifi and my HP spectre laptop will not talk to each other. And it is very frustrating that I have a wireless HP printer that won't work unless I am connected to the same network, which is ATT wifi.
I have removed and installed the device driver numerous times. I have tried the release/renew option numberous times. Removed the wifi connection numberous times. Updated everything I can find. On a rare occasion, maybe once every two weeks, it will connect.
Mostly the wifi just says Cannot Connect when trying to connect from the systray. Since the windows update, it asks for password, but when I put in password, it just keep asking again and again and again for the password.
Since I have had this problem our family has bought two other laptops and I did not choose HP because of this issue. Our Asus and Samsung laptops work fine with wifi. I am ready to throw this laptop out the door and start with a different brand of laptop.
Any additional thoughts or ideas to try would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Which communication protocols does your AT&T Wifi router support? A? G? N? AC?
From: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04807803
Your computer's WLAN adapter is one of the following:
● Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 802.11 ac 2×2 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo
● Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 802.11 ac 2×2 WiFi + BT 4.0 Combo
● Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7265BN 802.11 a/b/g/n 2×2 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo
● Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7265BN 802.11 b/g/n 2×2 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo
Can you turn off all other wireless devices in your home?
Cell phones?
Your wireless printer?
Wireless telephone handsets?
A WiFi router in a "mortgage-helper" suite in your house?
Then, try again to connect.
What is the physical distance between your computer and your router?
Can you reduce it to "nearly-zero", and try again?

I'm having the same problem with my brand new HP x360 too. Makes me want to return it. Why in the heck does this laptop not want to log onto home wifi?
If you wifi has a password, you need to provide a password before any new device can connect.
If you are running wifi without a password, that is not a good idea!

Presumably, you are entering the correct password.

Since it is "brand-new", you are entitled to telephone-support from HP.

A few possibilities:
1. The communication protocols supported by your computer are not compatible with the communications protocols supported by your WiFi router. What is the model-number of your computer, and the manufacturer & model-number of the router?
2. Other WiFi devices inside your home, such as wireless telephone handsets, are interfering. Turn them off, and unplug the "base-station", and then try again to connect.
3. If you live in co-op housing, or a condominum, or apartment, or some other "urban" neighbourhood, other WifI networks in the "range" of your computer are interfering. On your computer, when you "browse" for available networks, how many other networks are listed, and what signal-strengths are shown? Download the "trial" version of the NetStumbler software, to get detailed information about the "cloud" of WiFi networks that are reachable from your computer.

Good to hear others with same issue. It has driven my crazy for longer than a year. I may have found a solution, but in the past solutions only work for a short time. So far this one has lasted 3 days. We shall see. Would like others to let me know if this helps their problem or not. I am totally wary of this solution, but I can connect to wifi now, so looking good.
Found this on a website somewhere:
- Go to Device Manager, Network Adapter, find the wireless network adapter you have and right click on it.
- Select Properties. Then go to Power Management tab.
- Uncheck "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power", hit OK.
So I unchecked, hit OK, and went back to my wifi, entered password again, and it accepted and has worked since!
To answer some questions above, I am currently using ATT 9760 modem/router with b,g, n capabilities and my Network Adapter is Dual Band Wirless AC7265. I am with 15 feet direct sight of my modem/router and getting closer didn't fix the problem. I haven't turned off every wifi device in my house because that a chore with so many. But will try that next if this solution stops working.
Would love to hear if this solves anyone else's problems and will be back for more help if my password stops working again and I get the dreaded, Can't Connect to this Network.
Thanks for the responses!

Just an update... since then I had a few times that I still couldn't connect to wifi.....I get the password box and if I enter it, it won't accept, just says can't connect to internet.
However, everytime recently I couldn't connect, I connect to my phone hotspot and then click disconnect. Then I click connect on my ATT wifi, and it will connect. Have no clue why, but I have been able to use my ATT wifi this way.

Have you tried totally powering-off the ATT device, by disconnecting its AC power?
Disconnect its "upstream" side, either the DSL-cable or the coaxial-cable, so it becomes a "local" WiFi access point.
Then, reconnect the AC power, and let it reboot.
Now, can you connect to the device, i.e., enter the correct password, and get connected "locally" ?
Reconnect that DSL/coax cable, and then see if your computer now reports that it has Internet connectivity.

Maybe, ATT support is correct, in that you have a problem with your HP's wireless software/hardware.
Note that connecting to the Internet is a two-step process:
1. connecting and authenticating to the WiFi adapter inside the ATT box;
2. having the ATT box connect to the Internet.
When you say "not connected", which of the above 2 steps has failed?
