Thank you for posting this information! I did the exact same thing as you, step-by-step, but reached an impasse when windows 7 wouldn't offer me the proper driver enabling use of the intei wifi link 1000. Anyway, thanks to your help, just like you said, wi-fi started up really quick and snappy. I totally feel like the three hours i spent scratching my head could have been avoided if I had just googled the solution from the start instead of relying on the manufacturer to provide accurate driver info.

Old thread but these computers are still working and the drivers for the WLAN card seem to have issues and the Broadcom 4325 A/B/G/N card seems to be a problem child. My DV6-2175 is new to me and I'm refurbishing it for its capabilities and its a nice laptop. New Hard Drive (1tb) TV Express card, & Fan so far until I found the WLAN card issue it was misserable, it might connect to teh WAP but then it may or may not connect to the internet or remain connected if it did. All Windows 7 updates and new Broadcom drivers installed without issue but still no solid reliable wireless network or internet connection. Wireless did connect on new access points but really found to be temporary and still slow. I ordered a second hand Aetheros AR5009 A/B/G/N carg (HP# 483113-001) as a replacement. This is an alternate part number from within my models service and maintenance guide). I uninstalled the Broadcom in device manager and had the drivers removed from the system and shut down. installed the new Aetheros card and plugged intot he wired lan and powered up; Windows searched Windows update and installed the drivers in a few minutes without issue. I unplugged and turned on the wifi et voila immediate connection after entering my WAP pin and isntalntly the internet connected and its fast, just like new.
So consider replacing your WLAN card, I found one for under $10 on EBay and it took less than 5 minutes to install including two restarts and my frustrations are solved. Don't wast your time with the Broadcom card.
Next a BlueRay optical disk to install when it arrives and the modem and ports to follow.
