Microsoft Windows 11

I do not think that this problem can be addressed by the Community. It seems to be a software problem that HP needs to look at.

Netgear router: MODEL: RS300 (BE9300)

Using Spectrum/Charter internet & there modem, ARRIS, TM1602.

Background. This area had a bad ice storm at the end of March into April. Lines had to be rebuilt. Power & Internet was out for days. Then we got internet back. But went of & on for some time. Took some time to get this system back up and running.

Then power & internet went out again.

Now today, 22 May, I tried to print to the HP Envy Pro 6455 All-in-One. The Print Queue showed the documents not being printed.

Opened HP Smart and get what is in 1StartScreen22May2025.jpg. That blue circle keeps going round & round. Never finding the 6455.1StartScreen22May2025.jpg

Maybe the network is not finding the 6455. Unplug the 6455, wait 30 seconds & plug it back in.

Network light says it is connected to router.

The blue circle keeps going round & round. Still never finding the 6455.

Sometimes when I open HP Smart and click on Scan, HP Smart finds the 6455. It might take a few tries, but HP Smart finds the 6455.

Not this time. Close HP Smart.

Open HP Smart again and click on Printer Information and get what is in 2PrinterInfo22May2025.jpg.

2PrinterInfo22May2025.jpg

Click on Network Information and get what is in 3NetworkInfo22May2025.jpg.

3NetworkInfo22May2025.jpg

In HP Smart under Settings, click on Advanced Settings and get what is in 4AdvancedSettings22May2025.jpg.

4AdvancedSettings22May2025.jpg

Do not know what this means, but something will not open.

I clicked on the printer picture that shows 'Add/Set up a Printer' and get what is in 5AvailablePrinters22May2025.jpg.

5AvailablePrinters22May2025.jpg

I clicked on it not knowing if this was going to do anything. This even shows that the 6455 is on-line. But I cannot print to it. WHY?

What is seen in 6Start2Screen22May2025.jpg

6Start2Screen22May2025.jpg

is the result of clicking on the green/blue line box in 5AvailablePrinters22May2025.jpg.

Why did I have to click on that box? Why didn’t HP Smart find the 6455 in the first place? It was obviously on-line.

Now I went back to Printer Settings.

Opened Printer Information and got what is in 7Printer2Info22May2025.

7Printer2Info22May2025.jpg

Opened Network Information and got what is in 8Network2Infor22May2025.jpg.

8Network2Info22May2025.jpg

At opening screen I click on Scan and I am sent there right now. Not like when I first opened HP Smart.

Is there something wrong with HP Smart that needs to be looked at by the coders/programmer?

Is this process normal for HP printers and HP Smart?

I hope that this printer, HP Envy Pro 6455 All-in-One, will be seen & work when I turn this computer off & turn it back on in the morning. If I have many more problems, I am going to put the 6455 to sleep permanently.

Welcome to the HP English Community --

During any / all of the following - if using - Switch OFF your VPN.

If you have not done so,

Consider assigning a static / manual IP address for the printer on printer -

Set on both printer an in your router that controls your network.

Use your browser to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to update the IPv4 network on the printer.

Although it should be unnecessary; a quick check of the printer firmware might be in order.

Use Embedded Web Server (EWS) to find your printer's Firmware version

Section General > Firmware Update > Firmware Information / Firmware Updates

----------------------------------------------------------

Example – EWS Setup – IPv4

EWS > HP Document / How-to (original format)

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

Ethernet

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wired (802.3) > IPv4 Configuration

Wireless

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration

As Available:

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > Advanced

Network Interface on / off, Network SSID name, Security Settings, Passphrase / Password

Select and connect to the correct SSID / network name for the bandwidth you are using.

Note:   It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.

Example - EWS - Original Format - IPv4 Configuration

EWS_9025_Network_IPv4_Configuration_6EWS_9025_Network_IPv4_Configuration_6

What?

In many cases, using the IPv6 address will not provide the access you expect.

===================================================

Next,

If you can get control of the printer enough to open HP Smart

Open Printer Settings

In section Printer Information

Scroll down --

Use "Hide" to remove the printer from the application.

HP_Smart_Win_Main_Menu_7HP_Smart_Win_Main_Menu_7

Restart printer, computer, and router.

Open HP Smart

If needed, Sign into your HP Account in the app

"Add" your printer(s) to the HP Smart Application

=====================================================

No Joy?

The following includes steps to check / hide / add / uninstall - install the app plus the steps to Reset the HP Smart Application.

Ignore redundancies, steps what you do not want, do not like, or will not do.

Try / Consider

If using, switch OFF your VPN on the device submitting the job.

Note > If you don't know what this means, you are not using a VPN network.

On your device (tablet, phone) ensure both Bluetooth and Location Services are switched ON

HP Smart uses these services during initial connection.

AND

HP Smart is sensitive to the application versions that are installed on the different devices that use your printer.

Check / Update  >> Every device (computer(s) and / or mobile) where HP Smart is installed should be running the latest version of the HP Smart application available for that device platform (Operating System / Version).

What else?

I might Reset the HP Smart application on the Windows machine.

=======================================================

NOTES

  • Reset HP Smart does remove the application's data in your account.
  • The app reset does not destroy any HP Smart Shortcuts (they are kept elsewhere).
