How can I install a 5g driver?

LW820EA#ABU
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have a refurbished HP 4330 Probook with an installed ssd. Im just wondering how I can connect or see my homes 5g network please. I have updated my drivers but the 5g doesn't show up. I know it's an old model but having had an ssd installed I would've thought I would get 5g, but I don't. Maybe I'm wrong as I'm not that computer literate.

Thanks in advance for any help.

How can I install a 5g driver?

Hi,

To be able to navigate on the 5GHz network you need a Wifi module which can use the network. So an ac module. The best choice would be to buy a wifi dongle.

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-USB-AC53-Nano-Dual-Band-Compatible/dp/B071KV2SMV/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=usb...

Hope it helps,

David

Hi, @PNG73

The parts list for your notebook indicates that it comes with an Atheros BGN wifi adapter.

http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=LW820EA

Anytime you see a wifi N adapter with a suffix that ends in BGN, that means it is a single band wifi adapter.

Dual band wifi N adapters have suffixes that end in ABGN or AGN.

The easiest thing to do as Iomare mentioned would be to purchase an external USB wifi adapter.

However, if you want to upgrade the internal wifi card to a dual band one, you can.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03054507

The only dual band wifi card that will work is this one...

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230    HP part number 636672-001

Because your notebook has a BIOS whitelist which prevents the installation of any wifi adapter not listed in the service manual, you must get that exact model card, and it must have the HP part number on it, or it will not work.

The best place to find wifi cards on older model notebooks is on eBay.

Do your search by the part number, not the model of the wifi card.

I would suggest you get one where you actually see the part number shown on the 'Replace with HP Spare' label.

The Intel Centrino 6230 is a dual band wifi N card with Bluetooth.

It has a maximum throughput of 300 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.
