Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My HP  Smart Tank has a mind of its own.  It is connected by wi-fi.  I was using it in another location connected by ethernet and worked OK.   Now that it is connected by Wi-fi it is ofline most of the time.  At 2:am I wake hearing it priniting my documents.  I did everything at least 3 times.  I re propgamed , removed it, add it back on, shut off my modem and stil nothing works.  It seems like it is on a timer and only works when the progam time come on.  I cannot find any timer. When it does work and is not offline it operates fine.   It will be very disrupted to connect by ethernet again so I hoping  someone can hellp.

Hi @RSplaine330,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

This sounds like a frustrating issue, and I understand how disruptive it can be—especially if your printer decides 2 a.m. is the ideal time to start printing. Let’s walk through some steps to stabilise the Wi-Fi connection for your HP Smart Tank printer and stop this erratic behaviour.

1. Assign a Static IP Address to the Printer

This helps keep the printer from "dropping off" the network:

  • On the printer control panel, print a Network Configuration Page or go to Settings > Network Settings > Wireless Summary.
  • Note the IP Address.
  • Type that IP into your browser to access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Go to Network > IPv4 settings.
  • Choose Manual IP, copy the current IP settings over, and save.

2. Disable "Scheduled Print" or Queued Jobs

Sometimes print jobs get stuck and release at odd hours:

  • On your computer, open Printers & Scanners (Windows) or System Preferences > Printers & Scanners (Mac).
  • Select your printer and click Open Print Queue.
  • Delete any pending or paused jobs.

Also check in:

  • HP Smart App > Your Printer > Print History to see if anything is queuing unexpectedly.

3. Turn off Web Services / Print Anywhere (if enabled)

Some models use cloud printing services, which might be causing this:

  • From the printer’s screen, go to Settings > Web Services.
  • Choose Remove Web Services or disable Print Anywhere (via HP Smart).

4. Disable Power Save and Auto-Off (Timer-like Settings)

These can make the printer appear offline or activate oddly:

  • On the printer control panel or in EWS:
    • Go to Settings > Preferences > Power Settings.
    • Disable or extend Sleep Mode and Auto-Off Timer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
